Invitation Proposal for an Austrian Visiting Professor 2004 Budget 1. Theory and Reasoning Joint participation between the local institutions and the institutions abroad in conducting academic seminars and exchanging professors to embark on joint research projects, thesis writing and the advising of graduate student, will facilitate the instruction of skills in higher technology and support graduate level education, thus enabling the production of well qualified graduates. This program will also assist in raising the level of research to international standards while promoting the development of education and research in this country as a whole. Since current research in the fields of Pharmaceutical Science and Applied Science, including the development of an efficient medicine delivery system and the development of new medicine from local natural resources, requires the guidance of international experts. Therefore, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Chiang Mai University feels, that it is essential to arrange for an invitation to an Austrian visiting professor in this field. The visiting professor is also a full university professor, who is knowledgeable and well experienced, with prior joint publications and advising responsibilities, undertaken conjunction with the instructors and graduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Chiang Mai University. The visiting professor would give lectures, conduct academic seminars, and follow up on graduate students research, as well as discuss the possibility for further joint research programs. 2. Purpose: 1. That the visiting professor will have the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience of high level technology by giving lectures, holding academic seminars, and conducting practicums with the instructors and graduate students in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Chiang Mai University and other participating institutions. 2. That the visiting professor will have the opportunity to follow up on the research of the graduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Chiang Mai University 3. That the researchers and instructors of the participating institutions will have the opportunity to meet together and exchange ideas with the visiting professor. 3. Instructors, undergraduate and graduate students of the participating Institutions will gain a higher level of knowledge and technological skills from the visiting Austrian professor 2. The graduates under the supervision of the visiting professor will receive valuable advice and guidelines for their thesis. 3.
