Also one trike unit with back support, seat belt and foot clamps. Photo ID may be needed to hire. Electric scooter for hire but booking is required in advance by calling the park. Visitor centre and café are wheelchair accessible. Toilet facilities with tracking hoist and height adjustable changing bench are available in the Park Rangers’ Office, next to the Visitor Centre. Access to these facilities can be obtained by contacting the on-site member of staff, 7 days per week 9am – 4.30pm. See also section on “Out on the water.” FreeWheel North is based at the Glasgow Green Cycling Centre (next to Templeton Business Centre). They have a range of cycles available for use by all, including a number suitable for people with a range of disabilities. Schools and groups are welcome as well as individuals and families. There is a smooth cycle path as well as a more ‘off road’ track adjacent to the Centre. But there is also the option to take the bikes out into Glasgow Green where there are a number of good cycle paths. The Cycle Centre is currently open 3 days per week ,with hopes of this increasing to 5 days per week. MATP (Motor Activity Training Programme) MATP was devised by Special Olympics America and allows people with profound and complex disabilities to take part as athletes in a wide range of specially adapted sports. It encourages people to stretch their abilities and compete with, not against, others with similar skills. MATP is tailored to individual needs and abilities and emphasises personal achievement. There are three levels for each event. Each event is non-competitive and can be tailored to each individual to allow participation. The room comprises of an Arjo-Concerto changing bed (weight capacilty 23.5 stone), as well as a disabled toilet and wash hand basin (fitted with an Arjo-Minstrel manual hoist, weight capacity 25.2 stone). Customers need to use their own sling for the hoist, as this is not provided, and it has to be Arjo-Minstrel compatible. PAMIS have had several successful sessions with DSUK at Xscape at Braehead. The facility at Xscape provides the opportunity for skiers to experience ski-ing on real snow. There is a large disabled changing room/toilet within the Sno!zone area at Xscape, but there is currently no changing bench or hoist. There is a mobile hoist available for use to allow skiers to transfer from wheelchair to ski equipment, but users must bring their own sling. Cost per hour for 1:1 instruction at Xscape: £40 (plus £2.50 for non-DSUK members). It may be possible for the hour to be shared to allow two skiers half an hour each – you should contact DSUK to negotiate this. DSUK are also able to provide adaptive ski lessons at Bellahouston Ski Centre and at Bearsden (both dry ski slopes) on request. For a group of 5 disabled individuals, you will require 2 instructors. Approximate costs for a day at Auchistarry quarry are: 2 instructors - £520 plus VAT 3 instructors - £780 plus VAT Activity times on site are: 10am - 4pm Climbing and abseiling in the Centre: Access to the building is restricted. Wheelchair users who cannot mobilize without their wheelchair will not be able to access the building due to the stairs at the entrance.
