Fair of Gastronomy and Food Processing Technology and Equipment GASTRO-TECH, 16-18 October 2008 The Fair of Gastronomy and Food Processing Technology and Equipment GASTRO-TECH is dedicated to a whole spectrum of issues related to the bakery and gastronomy industries, featuring products and services offered by manufacturers and distributors of food processing equipment as well as equipment and furnishings for restaurants and catering establishments. It is also a place for the exchange of information on nutrition technology and food processing. The 1st Fair of Gastronomy and Food Processing Technology and Equipment GASTRO-TECH, which was held in the Kielce trade fair centre, hosted more than 50 exhibitors. The visitors became acquainted with state-of-the-art solutions related to equipment used by bakeries, confectionaries, restaurants, bars, canteens, and food processing plants. The beginning of this fair was marked by the opening of a two days' Forum of the Polish Bakery Association, the aim of which was to present bakery accessories to be used in the gastronomy sector. The fair was accompanied by competitions, with the Polish Championship of Young Confectioners, which is organized every two years alternately with the Polish Confectioner Championship, being especially interesting. The calendar of the competitions held in Poland has been correlated with the World Championships (of Confectioners and Young Confectioners), which are organized by the International Union of Confectioners, Pastry Cooks and Ice Cream Makers (UIPCG). During the 1st GASTRO-TECH, the young confectioners were competing not only for medals and titles of the best confectioners in Poland, but also for the right to represent our country at the World Championship, which will be held in April 2008 in Lisbon. Equally interesting and impressive was a contest organized for all those specializing in selecting, brewing and serving coffee. The aroma of the best coffee spreading within the hall during the National Barista Contest attracted crowds of coffee amateurs. The coffee, whether weak or strong, bitter or sweet, black or white, with its wide variety of flavours, proved to be delightful. The best products exhibited at the Fair of Gastronomy and Food Processing Technology and Equipment GASTRO-TECH were honoured with medals and awards of distinction. Kielce Trade Fairs presented only one medal – for the LEEN LIFE bread – which was received by the company ANIKA Stanisław Butka with its seat in Luboń. Awards of distinction were given to two companies: Zakład Wyrobów Gumowych GENES Eugeniusz Mieczkowski with its seat in Sokółka – for silicone trays for baked goods, desserts and frozen food, and RESTAURATOR SERWIS Wojciech Kiercz and Wiesław Kiercz in Kielce – for the gas convection oven CONVECT – AIR EXPORT, KÜPPERSBUSCH. The 2nd Fair GASTRO-TECH was organized under the auspices of the Polish Bakery Association and the Polish Association of Confectioners, Pastry Cooks and Ice Cream Makers. Products and services exhibited at GASTRO-TECH are first and foremost aimed at retailers, canteens, restaurants and catering establishments, hotels, as well as food processing companies, attracting considerable attention of cookery experts, chefs, restaurant owners and technologists.
