CITATION:
"While serving with the First Marine Division in
connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 14
February 1968 to 18 February 1969, Corporal Jansen performed his duties in an
exemplary manner. Initially assigned as a Radio Relay Repairman with Headquarters
Company, Twenty-Seventh Marines, he displayed outstanding professionalism and
initiative despite extremely adverse conditions and the difficulties of a combat
environment. Distinguishing himself by his consistently high level of efficiency, he
materially enhanced the operational effectiveness of his unit. Working tirelessly and with
meticulous attention to detail, he skillfully maintained and repaired the radio relay lines
to provide his company with outstanding communications support. Reassigned on 3
September 1968 as a Radio Relay Team Chief to Radio Relay and Construction
Company, Seventh Communication Battalion, he skillfully supervised his men in the
expeditious accomplishment of all assigned tasks and continued to distinguish himself in
the performance of his duties. As a result of his diligence and seemingly unlimited
resourcefulness, he gained the respect and admiration of all who observed him and
contributed significantly to the accomplishment of his unit's mission. Corporal Jansen’s
outstanding professional ability, untiring determination and steadfast devotion to duty
reflect great credit upon himself, the Marine Corps and the Naval Service.
