The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the NAVY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL to CORPORAL WILLIAM H. JANSEN, JR. UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS for outstanding achievement in the superior performance of his duties in the field of professional achievement as set forth in the following CITATION: "While serving with the First Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 14 February 1968 to 18 February 1969, Corporal Jansen performed his duties in an exemplary manner. Initially assigned as a Radio Relay Repairman with Headquarters Company, Twenty-Seventh Marines, he displayed outstanding professionalism and initiative despite extremely adverse conditions and the difficulties of a combat environment. Distinguishing himself by his consistently high level of efficiency, he materially enhanced the operational effectiveness of his unit. Working tirelessly and with meticulous attention to detail, he skillfully maintained and repaired the radio relay lines to provide his company with outstanding communications support. Reassigned on 3 September 1968 as a Radio Relay Team Chief to Radio Relay and Construction Company, Seventh Communication Battalion, he skillfully supervised his men in the expeditious accomplishment of all assigned tasks and continued to distinguish himself in the performance of his duties. As a result of his diligence and seemingly unlimited resourcefulness, he gained the respect and admiration of all who observed him and contributed significantly to the accomplishment of his unit's mission. Corporal Jansen’s outstanding professional ability, untiring determination and steadfast devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself, the Marine Corps and the Naval Service. Corporal Jansen is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.
