WASTE WATER CAN BE CREATED WHEN YOU TAKE A SHOWER OR FLUSH THE TOILET.
ARTIFICIAL WETLANDS ARE THE NATURAL ALTERNATIVE.
SCREENING IS THE FIRST STEP. DURING THIS, THE WASTE WATER ENTERS A
TREATMENT PLANT AND UN-NEEDED ITEMS (wood, rocks, ect.) ARE REMOVED.
TWO DIFFERENT ROUTES ARE TAKEN FOR LIQUIDS AND SOLIDS.
EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE PUMPED WHICH IS THE SECOND STEP. GRAVITY PUMPS
THE WASTEWATER FROM THE HOME TO THE TREATMENT PLANT.
WASTE WATER RESIDUALS ARE ANOTHER STEP INVOLVED WITH TREATING WASTE
WATER. THIS DEALS WITH THE SOLID-WASTE MATERIALS AND TAKES UP TO 20-30
DAYS.
AERATING IS THE THIRD STEP. DURING THIS SEWAGE IS SHAKEN UP WHICH MAKES
DISSOLVED GASES RELEASE INTO THE AIR.
THE FOURTH STEP IS REMOVING SLUDGE. DURING THIS STEP, SLUDGE SETTLES TO
THE BOTTOM OF TANKS AND SETTLES OUT OF THE WASTE WATER.
EFFLUENT IS THE NAME FOR THE END RESULT OF THE WATER (AFTER IT IS TREATED)

IS DISCHARGED INTO A RIVER OR OCEAN.
REMOVING SCUM IS THE FIFTH STEP. DURING THIS SLUDGE SETTLES TO THE BOTTOM
OF THE SEDIMENT TANK WHILE THE LIGHTER MATERIALS FLOAT TO THE TOP
(INCLUDING SCUM).
