SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to representative teams from all England Squash & Racketball
affiliated senior schools and sixth form colleges. It is free for schools to affiliate themselves
with England Squash & Racketball. To do so contact the Membership Department on 0161
438 4317.
If a school from off the mainland of England wishes to enter, they may do, however schools
must be prepared to play all fixtures at away venues.
3.
I)
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
For events 1&2, all players must be under 19 years of age at the time of participation.
For events 3&4 all players must be under 15 years of age on 1 September 2015.
II)
Pupils are eligible to play for their schools throughout the period of competition providing
they are attending the school for full time education. A pupil is not eligible to be included in
a team if he/she is only undertaking part time studies.
III)
A person playing in the Under 15 event category can also play in the Under 19 event.
IV)
APPROVED EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN BY ALL PLAYERS IN EVERY GAME OF THIS
COMPETITION.
4.
FORMAT
I)
Each team will consist of 5 male or 5 female players. However, if a school does not enter a
female team into the championships, but there is a female player at the school who wishes
to participate, then that player may compete in the boy’s team, provided they play in merit
order. This is the only basis on which a mixed team may enter. There is also a limit of one
female player per mixed team.
II)
It is the duty of every school to see that the team is arranged strictly in order of merit. A
team order may not be changed, nor can teams be strengthened from the knock out stage
onwards, without prior approval of the Organisers. Disputes relating to team playing orders
will be dealt with by England Squash & Racketball.
III)
If a school brings in a new player after the knockout stages have begun, who would
strengthen their team, this player’s score in a tie and all those players listed below them will
be scratched.
IV)
If immediately before a tie a reserve is required to play, he/she must be placed in strict merit
order, i.e. No 5 of their team.
VI)
The order of play shall be 5, 4 and 3, 1, 2 on two courts (unless circumstances demand
otherwise).
VII)
Schools entering more than one team per category i.e. A and B teams, must declare their
squad list at the beginning of the season, before their first fixture is played. Players cannot
switch between A and B teams, however a B team player can play in the A team in the Group
stages once if there are injuries/unavailability to the A team Squad. If merit order dictates
that a B team player moves up into the A team, ESR must be informed of this before any
fixtures take place.
VIII) All categories will be playing with PAR scoring to 11, best of 5 games.
THE NATIONAL SCHOOLS TROPHY FINALS and THE NATIONAL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
FINALS ARE ANTICIPATED TO TAKE PLACE IN MARCH 2016. Date, Venue and Format of the
finals TBC.
The early stages of the competition will be arranged in area leagues. The leagues will be
played on a “play by” basis, with each school having a specific fixture to fulfil every 2-3
weeks.
5.
I)
II)
The scoring will be as follows:
One point shall be awarded for each game won in a match.
Five bonus points shall be awarded to the schools winning a tie.
At the end of the area league, schools shall be placed:
A)
B)
C)
D)
E)
Firstly on ties won.
If the above are equal on the number of matches won
If the number of ties won is equal, on number of points
If the above are equal, the greatest positive difference between total games won and total
games lost.
If all of the above are equal, the total positive difference between total points won and total
points lost.
Please note:

A match is played between individuals.

A tie is a series of five matches played between two schools.
6.
For all rounds in the area leagues, the home team must offer their opponents by telephone a
choice of four dates, (at least three of which must be weekdays).
The first date offered must provide a minimum of two weeks notice. A response to the
offered dates should be made within three days. Should no offer of dates be received by the
away side, the away side should initially attempt to make contact with the home side, and if
unsuccessful, England Squash & Racketball should be contacted immediately. If the home
team has offered dates as described, the away side must accept one. If no mutual
agreement can be reached the “play by” date listed becomes the “play on” date. Teams
must contact England Squash & Racketball if they require an extension beyond the play by
date.
Time extensions will only be granted in very exceptional circumstances. Teams are
strongly encouraged to make contact within the time stipulated to avoid danger of penalty if
matches cannot be arranged.
Cancellation of ties with less than 48 hours notice will constitute a walk over to the opposing
team, unless exceptional circumstances prevail, e.g. extreme travel difficulties. The
judgement of exceptional circumstances will be the responsibility of England Squash &
Racketball.
7.
BOTH TEAMS MUST SEND THE RESULTS CARD TO ENGLAND SQUASH & RACKETBALL
IMMEDIATELY. All results must be received by England Squash & Racketball within two days
of the play by date concerned.
8.
The ball to be used should be an England Squash & Racketball approved Dunlop Double
Yellow Dot Ball. However, if schools with cold courts feel that a better game can be
obtained with a faster speed ball; this is quite in order by agreement of both captains.
9.
THE WEARING OF ENGLAND SQUASH & RACKETBALL APPROVED EYE PROTECTION IS
MANDATORY FOR ALL ENGLAND SQUASH & RACKETBALL JUNIOR EVENTS
10.
Teachers should mark where possible, but competitors should also be encouraged to do so.
11.
It is the responsibility of the home side to ensure that a qualified first aider is present for the
full duration of the event.
12.
By mutual agreement schools located over 100 miles apart may elect to play ties at a neutral
venue, whereupon all expenses (excluding travel costs) should be shared equally. The
nominated host school remains responsible for administering arrangements for the match.
13.
There will be no reimbursement of travelling or court hire expenses.
14.
All fixtures involving an English school should be played in England.
15.
The competition will be played in accordance with the Rules of the Game as published by
England Squash & Racketball.
16.
The organisers reserve the right to disqualify a school should it in their opinion contravene
the foregoing rules and Conditions of Entry.
