QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 2
FOR THE PUBLIC TENDER NO. JN-B0639
QUESTIONS:
Question 1
Section: Part 2 - Backbone upgrade with in-door long haul equipment type.
In chapter 4.3.5 IDU, ODU interfaces, an interface part (transition) to the last RF channel filter is
required, over which the contracting Authority could insert/extract one RF channel directly to the RF
channel filter.
Could you please provide following details related to the interconnection:

Exact channels in use (Center frequency and BW) for existing equipment.

Existing equipment filters frequency response graphs.

Existing equipment mechanical connection details and mechanical restrictions, if any.
Question 2
Are all frequency channels for each link, both in Part 1 and Part 2 (2+0 and 4+0 configurations),
considered to be on same polarization (single polarization)? Are any links configured as dual
polarization? Please list which channels are on which polarization.
In CEPT/ERC/RECOMMENDATION 12-08 E, ANNEX B Part 1, 6 frequency channels are defined.
Which arrangement are CH1, CH3, CH5 and CH7 referred to, for 4 GHz frequency band?
Question 3
Part 1 and Part 2 require that microwave terminal shall provide Ethernet interfaces for point-to-point
transmission of data traffic. Also the equipment shall perform forwarding according to destination MAC
address.
Shall MAC Layer2 switching feature be included in the offer, or physical Layer1 point to point
connection betweer ports on both sides of the link shall be offered?
Bidder understanding is that terminals shall also support L2 switching functionalities. Please explain
how is the L2 switching considered to be implemented together with Ethernet interfaces for point-topoint transmission of data traffic?
ANSWERS:
Answer 1:
Table 1 below contains the list of RF channels that would Contracting Authority connect to the bidded
equipment. The right hand side column lits the planned polarizations for the installation.

On the following two pages the existing Alcatel (LH type) RF channel filters responses are shown.
From the figures the frequency responses of the channel filters can be seen.
FIGURE1: Filtering characteristic of Alcatel LH RF channel filters for 4 GHz band
FIGURE2: Filtering characteristic of Alcatel LH RF channel filters for 8 GHz band
The Contracting Authority would connnect the output of the transmitter of the existing SDH link to the
input of the last filter with a cable, wtih SMA connector type. At this we thought a functional connection
and not a direct connection. Therefore we require a transition in case the filter input/output is not
available at the front of the terminal.
Answer 2:
All the links will use single polarization. ACAP channelling type is planned and the last (highest)
frequency channel for all in-door is listed in Table1. Also in the PART 1 the 2+0 shall be made on the
same polarization.
Answer 3:
Because of the future use of Ethernet functionality of terminals, the offer shall include also the licenses
for the L2 switching funnctionality of the offered switches.
