Cambridge Technical in Information Technology The Cambridge Technicals - Level 3 are vocational qualifications which have been developed on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This course has been refined in order to be aimed specifically at students aged 16 plus. The units have been structured to enable learners to gain qualifications at their own pace and build on their achievements. The Cambridge Technical qualifications offer learners the opportunity to study a programme of units which will prepare them for further learning or training and provide opportunities to develop the skills required by employers. Students will also acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as planning, research and analysis, working with others and effective communication while achieving a nationally recognised vocational qualification. The course comprises several units. Two of these are mandatory: Unit 1 – Communication and Employability Skills for IT This unit allows students to understand what an employer expects of an individual and how to communicate effectively, while developing their own personal development needs. Unit 2 – Information Systems This unit will ensure that students have a greater understanding of how organisations use information, both internally and externally. The skills gained by completing this unit will give students knowledge of the functionality of information and the ability to produce management systems. In addition there are a number of optional units to complete the qualification. These include website production, e-commerce, digital graphics, computer systems, data analysis and design, interactive media authoring and many more. All units are internally assessed, followed by externally moderation by OCR moderators. Each individual unit is graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. Each unit carries credits which when aggregated complete the overall qualification.
