OCR Entry Level Cambridge Certificate in English (Entry 2) (600/7780/3)
What does this qualification cover?
At Entry Level 2, learners will extend their knowledge of English to secure understanding of speaking,
listening, grammar, punctuation, spelling and comprehension skills. They will understand
how to read and spell words using sound-symbol relationships and phonological patterns, construct
simple and compound sentences using common conjunctions, and use written words and phrases to
record and present information.

topics and present written information with some awareness of the intended audience.
For example, learners will be able to compose a letter to a friend or family member using phrases or
complete sentences.
Who is this qualification designed for?
This qualification is designed for those who need to improve their knowledge and skills in English. This
could be, in one or more specific skill area up to level 2, so that learners can function more effectively
in their homes, in their communities and at work. These qualifications provide a unit-based approach
that can stand alone or be part of a wider programme. Achievement of individual qualifications
supports learners’ progress towards an appropriate level 2 English qualification (GCSE or Functional
Skills). The individual qualifications allow learners to target specific gaps in their knowledge at a
particular level which supports their progress towards the appropriate level 2 qualification (GCSE or
Functional Skills). Learners who ultimately aim for a Functional Skills or a GCSE qualification may
have struggled with English skills throughout their lives and will therefore need to be supported and
motivated through the achievement of smaller, more focused qualifications which provide them with the
specific skills and confidence to continue learning and achieving en route to their ultimate aim. Once a
learner is secure in all the underpinning skills filled by OCR’s Cambridge Progression English units,
learners can then progress to a Functional Skills qualification or level 2 or GCSE.
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification has been designed specifically to support progression to further learning and work. It
is based on the National Adult Literacy standards. This provides the necessary rigour and flexibility to
support a wide range of progression opportunities in line with the needs of individual learners. This
includes progression towards Functional Skills and GCSE.
