The School of Tourism at LYIT is located off the main Letterkenny campus in Killybegs. It is a hub of activity for
programmes covering the business and practical elements of tourism, hospitality and professional cookery. It equips
graduates with the knowledge and skills to work in this exciting industry anywhere in the world, whether in an
established organisation or as entrepreneurs running their own business.
GRANTS:
Learners accepting a place on any HETAC programme should apply to their Local Authority for a Third Level
Maintenance Grant.
Please see contact details attached on the student finance page. The closing date for submission of completed
Third Level Student Grant Applications is 31st August. A Grant Application Form may be downloaded from

COLLEGE REGULATIONS:
Copies of the Student Handbook will be distributed during Induction.
LEISURE TIME:
Recreation and sports facilities are available in the School of Tourism and the Student’s Union organise weekly social
events, discos, etc. With approval from the Student Union individuals/groups can organise clubs and societies as
appropriate.
MEDICAL MATTERS:
There is a Nurse available on-campus. A health scheme, provided by the local General Practitioner, is offered free of
charge to all registered learners.
PROPERTY:
LYIT will not be held responsible for any loss of money, items of clothing or other property incurred by you while
attending your programme. In the event of breakage or damage to college equipment, you will be required to
contribute towards the replacement or repair of the damaged articles. You are strongly advised to name-tag all
personal/professional belongings.
OTHER INFORMATION:
It is a requirement of the Department of Education and Skills that all learners provide the School of Tourism with their
PPS number. Please bring it with you on registration day.

The cost of accommodation ranges from €50.00 to €85.00, depending on facilities and

Footwear and aprons will be available to purchase at the college only on the morning of
15 September 2011. A fitting service will be provided and all shoes and aprons will be supplied following

Where late starters are recruited to programmes, after the official course commencement date, the student
will purchase his/her garments as stated above with the exception of the footwear and aprons.
Ann Marie Mulligan (College Technical Officer) will supply details of the footwear and aprons directly to
the supplier and the learner will pay the €45 plus a postage and packaging charge by postal order or
bank draft payable to the supplier. A further €10 will have to be payable to Call Us Ltd for the Embroidery
Service.

The School of Tourism encourages all prospective students to avail of the uniform fitting service. It is also
important to note that students attending practical class without professional items of uniform or with
inappropriate professional items of uniform may be excluded from practical class.
The onsite fitting service includes professional fitting for all jackets, trousers and shoes with the immediate
supply of all items on the day (following payment). Individual items can also be ordered/purchased if
required however postage costs may be incurred.
The fitting service is provided by Freeman’s staff and is only available on the morning of the
15th September 2011, and is not part of LYIT or the School of Tourism; therefore all payments for this
limited service are made directly to the supplier, and not to the school.
