4940 version 4 Page 1 of 4 Identify variations in specified technical performance of electronic telecommunications equipment Level 3 Credits 6 Purpose This unit standard is for people who currently are, or will be, involved in the monitoring and maintenance of networks and systems. People assessed as competent in this unit standard are able to monitor telecommunications networks, systems, or services including plant and machinery; run diagnostic checks when variations occur; identify probable causes of variation; and monitor long term degradation. Subfield Telecommunications Domain Telecommunications - Service Delivery Status Registered Status date 28 July 1995 Date version published 25 January 2008 Planned review date 31 December 2012 Entry information Recommended: Unit 2780, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system, Unit 2797, Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of computer networks, and Unit 2782, Describe and use personal computer operating systems, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Accreditation Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry. Standard setting body (SSB) ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) reference 0003 This AMAP can be accessed at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/search/index.do. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 4940 version 4 Page 2 of 4 2 General Range Electronic products and services: those electronic products and services relating to electronic communication systems including transmission equipment, television studios, teletext, television transmitters and receivers, customer premise equipment, operating support systems, data, voice, networks, links, test equipment, cryptographic systems, power supply, supervisory control and data acquisition, cabling, electronic warfare, jamming, switches. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Identify unacceptable variations in specified technical performance. Performance criteria 1.1 Identified unacceptable variations in specified technical performance are complete and accurate. Range 1.2 electronic telecommunications equipment – see General Range; variations – faults, equipment failure, component malfunction, system degradation, all variations that exceed the tolerance specified for the particular equipment or system. Correct test procedures are implemented to confirm variance. Range as required or suggested in equipment, system or network specification manuals, supplier specifications, or manuals. 1.3 Equipment specification manuals are available for immediate reference. 1.4 Customers and system control are advised, at regular intervals and in a format which meets the user's needs, of work in progress and the implications for system performance. Range 1.5 customers – internal, external, vendors; authorised personnel – trade specific (electrician, plumber, gasfitter, electronics, engineer), organisations that provide maintenance services, suppliers of equipment. Identified variance documentation is correct, concise, accurate, and filed in the correct place or with the correct people by the agreed time. Range reports, monitoring data, memos, letters, authorisations, performance variation patterns. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 4940 version 4 Page 3 of 4 Element 2 Diagnose unacceptable variations in specified technical performance. Performance criteria 2.1 The cause of unacceptable variations in specified technical performance is established and is accurate and complete. Range 2.2 Diagnosis is completed by authorised personnel in accordance with safety procedures, guidelines, and regulations. Range 2.3 faults, equipment failure, component malfunction, system degradation, all variations that exceed the tolerance specified for the particular equipment or system. safety procedures – equipment, personal, application specific; authorised personnel – all those people who are authorised to have access to and work on equipment or systems (internal or external, tradespeople, equipment specialists, suppliers); guidelines and regulations – warranty, guarantee, contracts, technical codes of practise, occupational codes, procedures, Health, Safety and Employment, Electrical Regulations 1979, Local Electrical Authority. Customers and system control are advised at regular intervals, and in a format which meets the needs of the end-user, on the status of work in progress and the implications of the diagnosis on system performance. Range internal, external, vendors. 2.4 Operational impact is minimised while diagnostic work or activity is undertaken. 2.5 Diagnostic documentation is correct, concise, accurate, and filed in the correct place or with the correct people by the agreed time. Range reports, memos, letters, work instructions, faxes, regulatory, practice codes, practice procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 4940 version 4 Page 4 of 4 Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
