There will be 5 fifty-minute exams worth 100 points each, a quiz grade of up to 140 points, and a final exam worth 150 points, giving 790 course points. The course grade will be determined by (Exam scores + Final score + Quiz Scores) ÷ 790. There will be no extra credit. Letter grade scale: 90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, 0-59% F. Quizzes. We will start most days with a brief quiz, consisting of you presenting a solution to a homework problem from the previous night’s assignment. You may use your notes, but not your book. If you have attended class and done all the homework, the quiz points should be automatic! If you have questions about the homework, ask before the next class. Quizzes are graded on a four-point scale: one point for your name, four points for the correct answer, and two or three for a partially correct answer. Your 35 highest quiz grades will be kept as part of your course score. Appropriate excuses presented with documentation within two weeks of a missed quiz will result in that quiz being dropped. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory, enforced by the quiz policy. There will be no make-up exams or quizzes. Students who must miss an exam due to an authorized university activity; team travel to away games, for example; must 1) inform the instructor at least 1 week in advance with written documentation and 2) take the exam early. Otherwise, if you miss a test, you will be given the average of the following tests and final. Quizzes will be at the beginning of class, so a late student will miss the quiz and receive a zero. Homework: I will not collect homework. However, quiz questions will be previously assigned homework problems, and you may use your notes on quizzes (but not exams). Academic honesty: The minimum penalty for cheating will be an F in the course. Cheating may result in referral to the office of Student Affairs for further action. You are free to study with your classmates. However, your work in class must be your own. You may use your notes on quizzes, but you may not use your text or other resources. You may not store notes or programs in your calculator for use on exams. You may not use any notes for your exams. Decorum: Please observe the following rules in class. Be on time.
