Strong programs addressing sexual integrity or sexual addiction issues must involve at least three fundamental components: 1). Social support and accountability, 2). a proactive and deliberate pursuit of a spiritual life as an end in itself (not just to overcome sexual addictions), and 3). a knowledge base of how to live our lives based on the three core theological virtues of faith, hope and love.
1. Support partner(s) and Prevention Plan - Well-thought-out plan for encouragement and accountability with at least one trusted support partner.
2. Abiding in Christ - Deliberate well-thought-out moment-by-moment plan to Abide in Christ as an end in itself, and not merely used as a tool to overcome lust, but rather, joyfully abiding in the freedom of God’s love in and through us.
3. Spiritual Formation through Faith, Hope and Love - Centering your life through Faith,
Hope and Love in an atmosphere of Grace.

Since the victory over sexual addiction depends on the mastery and commitment to the following areas of concern, it is recommended that you check-in with your accountability group, partner and/or therapist on a weekly basis to address accountability and integrity questions regarding your utilization of the following resources and spiritual disciplines to encourage your growth in
Christ. Address the following areas on a scale of 1-10. 1 means you spent little or no time or effort regarding the area of concern. 10 means you engaged deliberately with no lapses. The issue of perfect performance is not in view here. Rather the concern is deliberate pursuit. For instance, “on a scale of 1-10 how much did you practice lectio divina and centering prayer the past 7 days”? If you did it each day with complete devotion, your answer will be “10”. If you did only a day or two, your answer may be “1” or “2”. If you did it daily, but they were brief and your heart was not in it, you may give yourself a “3”, for example.
Clearly, since the Christian life begins and ends with grace, the purpose of this weekly check-in is not to make anyone feel guilty or to burden anyone with undue self-criticism. Rather, the purpose is to reinforce the notion that all these elements are necessary for living an effective and powerful Christian life. Therefore, if you find yourself struggling tremendously and failing with regard to sexual addiction, chances are, you are not doing so well with the check-in items. If you are deliberate and focused about these, you will see the victory becoming greater and greater and the intensity of the battle loosening its grip on you over time.
