PRESS RELEASE FROM GRACELAND AND THE BEATLES STORY ELVIS HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING - GLOBALLY SIGNIFICANT NEW ELVIS AND BEATLES EXHIBITION OPENS IN LIVERPOOL Tuesday October 4th 2011 - A stunning new exhibition, cocurated by archivists from Elvis Presley’s Graceland and The Beatles Story, was unveiled at The Beatles Story in Liverpool, England, today. The exhibit explores the influence of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll on John Lennon and the early Beatles. A global exclusive for the city of Liverpool, Elvis and Us marks the first time archivists from Elvis Presley’s Graceland have curated an exhibition of this scale in the UK. Included are scores of amazing Elvis artefacts that have never before been seen outside of Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, Tenn. From his iconic Jailhouse Rock shirt to the amazing jumpsuits that characterized Presley’s later Vegas career, the new exhibition displays a fabulous array of items previously only seen in photographs, films and on stage. The influence Elvis Presley had over the young Beatles and the one and only meeting between the two world icons is carefully explored through a series of video interviews shot exclusively for the exhibition. The interviews feature Priscilla Presley, The Beatles 1960s press officer Tony Barrow, NME journalist Chris Hutchins, and members of The Quarrymen, the band that evolved into The Beatles. The Elvis and Us exhibition forms a unique and outstanding part of Liverpool’s cultural tourism offer going into 2012 and is expected to bring tens of millions of pounds into the regional economy over its two year run. Jerry Goldman, Managing Director of The Beatles Story comments: “This is a terrific day for the city of Liverpool as Elvis Presley finally comes to England. We’ve been working on this project for 12 months now - to see it finally open to the public is a dream-come-true.
