POSITION: Wastewater Crew Supervisor JOB DESCRIPTION Full Time (40 hours/week with occasional overtime) PAY RANGE: 11.50-12.80/hr. FLSA: NON-EXEMPT GENERAL DEFINITION: Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment facility; takes readings, runs lab tests, maintains equipment and cleans clarifiers. Performs as a crew supervisor at a water purification plant, wastewater treatment plant or at a system of pumping stations to ensure water supply meets customer needs and quality meets established guidelines of regulatory agencies. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator. SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: Supervision of work crew. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality limits for chemicals and turbidity. Knowledge of water purification or wastewater treatment plant equipment, processes and procedures or pump station equipment. Ability to train and lead a work crew. Ability to write reports and keep accurate records. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and walking, etc. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public. Must have a class "C" surface water purification license or class "C" wastewater treatment license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Steadfast adherence to safety standards. Must have Class C Texas Driver License. WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: Works in and office and outside including exposure to inclement weather. Works days, nights, holidays and weekends. May be exposed to bacteria in wastewater and hazardous chemicals such as chlorine gases. Subject to injury from moving machinery; requires daily lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, and walking MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDES: All facets of Heavy Equipment operation including backhoe. Other equipment includes PH meter, D.O. meter, sledge judge sampling buckets, chlorine meter, vacuum pump, balance Millipore flask, filter, stirrer, hot plate, rake, shovel, broom, water hose, wrenches; hoist, air pack, gas masks, squeegee, scrub brush. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather with significant wind factor; exposure to high humidity; calcium hydrochloride; chlorine and acetic acid, hydrogen sulfide, methane, dust acid fumes and sulfur dioxide; slick floors, ice, snakes, spiders; frequent noise from blower room, return pumps, lower pump basin; frequent exposure to pathogenic bacteria, viruses and sewage. PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Leather boots, hard hat, special clothing, gloves, eye protection, ear protection and other as required. NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Working closely with others as a member of the team, while working in a very noisy distracting environment. Performing multiple tasks may be necessary as well as working on very tedious and physically exhausting projects. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED 6 months experience in the same job field. Experience in backhoe operations. Valid Texas Drivers License, with the ability to access a class “D” wastewater certificate within one year and a “C” wastewater certificate within 2 years. SKILLS: Reading and writing to be able to complete reports, lobs and lab findings; read manuals and meters; ability to perform mathematical analysis; ability to analyze basic data. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: a) Get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavior extremes b) Perform work activities requiring negotiating, instruction, supervision, persuading, or speaking with others c) Respond appropriately to constructive criticism from a supervisor CRIMINAL HISTORY, DRUG TEST and DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK REQUIRED.
