Job Description: Performs administrative, managerial, and technical duties associated with
directing and overseeing the responsibilities of the department in relation to water, sewer,
electric, streets, drainage, parks, animal control, and general facility maintenance. Duties
include ensuring that the department adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal
regulations required in the operation of the water and sewer systems; ensuring proper
supervision and training of staff; planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of department
operations; working with engineers in the design of good projects and inspection of the
construction of projects to ensure contractor’s adherence to design specifications; developing
department budgets and controlling expenditures; proper records keeping and data
management; providing information and assistance to the public; and working well with the
public, other city departments, city manager, and outside organizations.
Job Requirements: A successful applicant should have a “B” Water License and a “B”
Wastewater License with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality with a preference for
an “A” Water License and laboratory experience, at least ten (10) years of experience in
municipal water and wastewater treatment utilizing water wells and mechanical wastewater
treatment plant treating 1.0 MGD of wastewater, appropriate knowledge of electrical
distribution systems and safety, and progressive responsibility within a municipal utilities
setting with at least eight years of experience in utility supervision/management; or any
equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and
abilities
to
perform
the
duties
of
Public
Works
Director.
