JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Collection System Technician
Department: Wastewater
Reports to: Bio Solids/Collections Supervisor
Job Summary:

Skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City wastewater
collection system, and Bio-solids handling operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 Monitors collection system performance;
 Completes line locates as requested by the community and contractors;
 On call for emergency line locates and sewer back-ups;
 Operates dump trucks, backhoe, hydro-cleaner, and Bio-Solids application equipment. Performs daily,
weekly, monthly, and semi-annual maintenance as assigned or scheduled;
 View videos of collection system and enters data on computer using Hansen software;
 Checks lubricates, maintains and makes minor repairs and adjustments on pumps, mechanical equipment,
and other related equipment within the Centrifuge building;
 Performs general custodial and some maintenance work.
 Ability to operate solids handling equipment with proper training.
Other Duties Responsibilities:
 Performs other related duties as required by Bio-solids/Collection Systems Manager and Assistant
Wastewater Superintendent.
Job Specifications:
 High School diploma or equivalent;
 Must hold a valid State of Idaho driver’s license with a good driving record, and Class B CDL License;
 Must have or be able to obtain a Class I Idaho Collections license;
 Must possess an Idaho Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license.
 Must be able to work unsupervised in the operation and care of machinery and mechanical devices,
electrical equipment;
 Must be able to lift 50 pounds;
 Must be able to read, write, and speak English;
 Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays;
 Must have some knowledge or understanding with computers using excel and windows 98 & ME;
 Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others;
 Ability to work effectively with mechanical equipment, ability to recognize equipment failure and to act
in an emergency, and skill in the use of hand tools and equipment;
 Ability to maintain Collection System, and Centrifuge Operation logs;
 Ability to keep excellent records maintains good rapport with the public, and fellow employees;
 Ability to work as a team player;


Ability to communicate with management, supervisors, and co-workers with respect in a pleasant,
courteous manner;
Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks;

Other Position Specifications:
 Knowledge of the procedures used in sampling and handling of field samples experience desirable;
 Prior experience at a wastewater treatment plant or with a sewage collection system is desirable but not
required;
Tools and Equipment Used:
 Cleaning & janitorial equipment;
 Pickup truck, backhoes, tractor, air compressor, front-end loader, Bio-Solids truck, and Hydro cleaner;
 Miscellaneous power tools for maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and Concrete
finishing work;
 Various office equipment such as telephone, computer, calculator and copy and fax machine.
Licensing/Certification:
 Class I Idaho Wastewater Treatment operators license or OIT license;
 Class I Idaho Collection Operators license;
 Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and Class B CDL license.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
 While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts in
inside and outside weather conditions. Frequently works in an office environment while sitting at a desk
for short periods of time. The noise level in the work environment can be loud;
 Occasionally works in high precarious places and is often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions fumes
or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration;
 Constantly requires driving a motor vehicle or maintenance equipment;
 Occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock;
 Occasionally requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds;
 There is potential for exposure to biological hazards while performing the duties of this position.
