Over the last few years, we have emerged as a new type of arts venue, very much driven by the cultural diversity and creative mix of South East London. Involving people, through participation and partnerships, is central to our work and is essential to the delivery of our vision. During the last year over 100,000 people visited the Albany and used our facilities, including audiences of over 25,000 for more than 200 events. The Albany has four performance spaces, including its unique central performance space, with a capacity of 300 seated and 500 for standing events. Our programme encompasses a range of music, theatre and spoken word, as well as an array of participatory projects. Our other facilities include a café bar, rehearsal and meeting rooms for hire, and office space. Resident at the Albany are fourteen companies – including the internationally renowned Heart n Soul who work with artists with learning disabilities, Apples & Snakes, the UK’s leading performance poetry organisation and a number of other arts and community organisations including Entelechy, Lewisham Education Arts Network, Montage Theatre Arts and Head for Business. The Albany is re-establishing itself as a significant London arts venue, building on our reputation as a home and seeding ground for creative development in the performing arts. We are a social enterprise, earning over 50% of our own income and we are grateful for the support of the London Borough of Lewisham, Arts Council England. Mission As a registered charity we have a committed Board of Trustees, 16 individuals who protect the Albany’s overall mission. This mission states that the Albany aims to provide: An artistic and community resource where diversity and creativity flourish. A space where new talent is nurtured and exposed to ideas from across the world. High quality creative experiences relating to the communities we serve. A creative centre for learning within the community, contributing to the cultural, social and economic benefit of South East London. As further commitment to this mission, the Albany actively promotes Membership and board development. 6 Trustees are elected by Members. 2 places are available for election each year at the Albany’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Attendance and participation at this event is the primary way for Members to play their part, though yearround involvement is encouraged through various other meetings, forums and events.
