Presse / Press Press info Model railway layouts/Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen 2015/12.08.2015 Introducing: The Model Railway Layouts at Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen 2015: Gauge IIm: Garden railway club from Pirmasens IIm or "G" is the gauge used by the Gartenbahner Südwest club. As the name suggests, model railways in this gauge can usually be found out in the open, or more specifically, in gardens. The theme of their layout is the good old days when narrow gauge railways connected even the most distant valleys with the rest of the world. However they don't shy away from excursions into more modern times, adding spice to the appeal of the railway. With rolling stock by Piko, Brawa and of course LGB the trains run in the Friedrichshafen hall on a flexibly constructed layout. Operator: Gartenbahner Südwest e.V., Pirmasens Layout size: 15.00 m x 14.00 metres Themr: "Romantic European cross-border light railway" Gauge 1: "Rissnitz" station "Rissnitz" station acts as a basis for the construction of various layout versions in different sizes. The station can serve as a junction for several side lines, but also as a train halt on a double-track main line. At Friedrichshafen 2015 the station lies on a single main track with its assigned railway depot and a secondary line that leads to the rural station of "Fügbeck" As rolling stock there will be current vehicles by well-known large series manufacturers as well as self-built models, but also older models from the Potsdam "Neuer Garten" layout built several years ago. More information on the Potsdam layout, which existed in the 1950s and 60s, as well as the current gauge 1 Leipzig layout, can be found at www.spur1leipzig.de. Operator: MEV "Friedrich List" Leipzig e.V., Leipzig Layout size: 16.00 m x 5.00 metres Theme: Rissnitz station 1 Presse / Press Gauge 1: "From Lingen to Gefrees" This layout depicts the railway line from Lingen to Gefrees and is set in eras III to IV. The modules have various sizes: 2 x 120 cm long, 2 x 150 cm and 1 x 90 cm. The industrial and the country scenes each have a length of 630 cm and are 97 cm wide. The layout has a metal base construction that clicks into place in just a few minutes and now also holds attachments for the sky backdrop and black fleece drapes. The curved modules have a track radius of 2550mm and 2700mm (HEGOB tracks). The coaling plant is based on original examples in Ottenberg and Rheine. The coal bunkers and wagons are self-built out of brass and Plasticard sheets, the mines are a wooden construction covered with tile motive. The sand tower and gantry cranes are also self-built. First a scale drawing is made, then the brass parts cut out, folded and welded. The buildings (modelled on originals in Lingen) consist of wooden walls onto which wall panels are glued. Switches and signals are controlled via an ECoS central unit . Operator: Leuvense Spooreen Vrienden, Belgien-Holsbeek Layout size: 13.00 m x 6.00 m Theme: From Lingen to Gefrees Gauge 0e: The Stadtoldendorf Gypsum Railway The 0e model of the Stadtoldendorf Gypsum Railway shows the mining, processing and transport of gypsum from the quarry to the gypsum works right up to the loading of the finished product. All these operations comply with the actual events on the line which ran until 1958. Buildings as well as the vehicles were, where possible, reproduced using the original construction drawings or copied and scaled from old photos. A special feature of the layout is a replica of the brake incline with which the narrow-gauge wagons are drawn up to the level of the federal railway tracks. Four or five engine drivers will control the locos digitally, while the crossover points and coupling have to be operated by hand. Operator: Modellbahn-Club Holzminden Layout size: 11 x 8 metres Theme: The Stadtoldendorf Gypsum Railway Gauge TT: "Gotthard Railway - North ramp" This layout is modelled on the north ramp of the Gotthard Railway between Gurtnellen-Wassen and Göschenen with the north entrance of the Gotthard tunnel, in the Reuss valley in Swiss canton Uri. This stretch is part of the Basel Milan connection which was opened in 1882. The club was founded in 1969 and work on the layout started soon afterwards. 2 Presse / Press The model railway is 16 metres long, 2 metres wide and up to 2.3 metres high. On these 32 square metres of surface area are about 250 metres of track and 12 metres of narrow gauge track (the Furka Oberalp Railway). The trains have to master a difference in altitude of 70 cm. The layout is in gauge TT and consists of 22 segments and detachable mountain tops. The scenery depicts the 1960s, while the rolling stock overlaps the eras, beginning with the Limmat, the first Swiss locomotive, right up to the modern IC. As none of the club members had ever seen the original railway, the layout and self-made buildings were constructed solely from photos. As there were no models of Swiss trains in Eastern Germany at that time, the approx. 90 locomotives and around half the waggons as well as the complete electronic controls were all self-made. Not until a few years ago was it possible to fall back on industrial models by various manufacturers. Operator: TT-Modellbahnverein "Gotthardbahn", Leipzig Layout size: 16.00 m x 2.00 m Theme: Mountain layout modelled on the Gotthard Railway north ramp Gauge TT: On the way with Theodor Kunz in Saxony This layout depicts numerous details from the age of the German Reichsbahn, the railway era III/IV. Apart from the long mainline track, stretching the full 30 metres of the layout, the splendid main station with its great entrance hall and generous siding area are an impressive sight. From the main station two branch tracks lead through various towns to their terminal stations, from where a mine and a sawmill, each with their appropriate goods wagons, are served. A narrow gauge railway brings tourists to a hiking region. The landscape is modelled on the countryside of Saxony. Operator: MEC "Theodor Kunz" Pirna e.V., Pirna Layout size: 13.00 m x 6.00 m Theme: Details from the era of the German Reichsbahn Gauge N: "Gotthard Railway - South ramp" This layout depicts one of the most beautiful stretches of railway in the world, the Gotthard Railway south ramp. After passing through the 15 km long Gotthard tunnel the train reaches Airolo station. It was not possible to reproduce a complete replica of the original line as a transportable exhibition layout, but the constructors have managed to feature all the scenic highlights of the journey. Shell construction was completed in two phases. The first instalment depicted Airolo down to the Prato helical tunnel. In 1996 the second phase began, with landscape work evolving simultaneously during both stages. 3 Presse / Press Operator: Interest group Gotthard Railway south ramp Leipzig Layout size: 20.00 m x 2.20 m Theme: Replica of the stretch Airolo-Biascina (Switzerland) Gauge N: "Arlberg" Single track stretch of the Arlberg Railway with 2 reversing loops and Pians interchange station with analogue controls. The pride of the club are the modules with true-to-original motives of the eastern ramp of the Arlberg railway line. This impressively detailed model depicts the following stretches of this legendary railway: Schmidtobel tunnel & viaduct, Weinzierl tunnel, Trisanna bridge and Wiesberg castle; 3-track station at Pians, 4.5 metres long, Engelwand tunnel & Engelwand bridge; Burgfried viaduct, Wolfsgruberbach viaduct. The total layout includes 3 stations (Langen, Braz and Pians) as well as the passing point Hintergasse. Altogether over 100m of track have been laid in hours of dedicated work to depict the single track line in meticulous detail. Some 27,000 mainly hand-made trees are included on the layout. Most of the trains in operation are replicas of the Austrian Federal Railway, though some other models can be seen on the layout. Operator: N-Spur.at Layout size: 17 x 4 m Theme: Replica of a stretch of the Arlberg Railway in gauge N Gauge N: "Around Lindau" At present the layout consists of 27 individual modules. These modules depict sections of the single-track Lake Constance Belt Railway and the double-track Allgäu Railway. The layout reflects the condition of the railway in the 80s, before the dismantling of numerous switch points and branch lines. During construction the club attached great importance to detailed and true-to-original reproduction of the genuine railway but also on consistent re-enactment of the whole layout. And so they have modelled scenery depicting vineyards and fruit orchards along the way and of course a section of the banks of Lake Constance can be seen. The modules are digitally controlled and constructed according to club specifications. Operator: Z-Club International & Z-Freunde International, Stuttgart Layout size: 11 x 6 m Gauge H0: "Lac du Bourget" Displayed for only the second time ever in Germany, the model railway layout by the "Club Modelisme Ferroviaire d'Albens" from Albens in France in scale 1:87 (H0) depicts a section of the railway line Paris - Rome, along the banks of the "Lac du Bourget" to the north of Aix les Bains, Savoy (France). Express trains such as the TGW alternate with interesting freight train combinations. Swimming and bathing scenes in the river add to the attraction of the layout. The model consists of 7 elements, and it took 5 people a period of three years to build the layout. The trains that run on the tracks with 12 volt (DC) depict the era from 1980 up to 2014. Operator: Club Modéliste Ferroviaire, Frankreich-Albens Layout size: 18 x 4 m Theme: Lac du Bourget in the era IV/V Gauge H0: Alternating current layout 'St. Ingbert-West station' The model railway layout is set in era IV/V, from around 1969 up to present day. St. Ingbert-West station is on a double-track mainline, with one platform and one track in each direction. There is also a loop line which leads to a brewery and acts as a connection to the interchange station of the direct current layout. The two loops - one with a reservoir and electric power station, the other with a quarry with its own siding - both have a fiddle yard with two / four-tracks, so that the double-track main line is always busy with varying trains in motion. The complete layout is equipped with a catenary, which enables realistic operation of electric locomotives. The layout is controlled via an all-relay interlocking system with block controls on the long track stretches, in analogue or digital operation. It is the club's second project following their popular Berlin Stadtbahn layout which includes the Berlin television tower. Initially the layout, which has grown to an impressive 50 metres, consisted of two terminal loops, two track modules and a small station. At the time, the club's youth group exhibited the railway for the first time at the Prater in Berlin. After reunification in 1989 the club soon came into contact with others who also build according to Nordmodul standards. A particular highlight for them was a joint exhibition with other clubs at Expo 2000 in Wilhelmshaven. Since then the modules have been further developed and renewed bit by bit, with the addition of single-track connectors. This enables club members to connect single track elements from their own private railways to the layout, adding to the diversity of activities on the tracks. Operator: Verein für Berlin Brandenburgische Stadtbahngeschichte e.V., Berlin Layout size: 21 x 7 m Theme: Module layout according to Arge Nordmodul standards Gauge H0: "Burgstein" This segment layout with Märklin Digital system consists at the moment of16 segments. It is constructed in a U-shape and depicts the eras 4 - 6,but trains from era 3 can also be seen. The double-track mainline with catenary and branch line to a goods loading station has a total track length of around 30 metres. The beautifully detailed segments are mountedona stable substructure. The themes of the various segments are for example a three-track main station with sidings, a bridge, a corner segment (winter scene), a loop with horse stables, a loop with castle ruins and a helicopter landing pad, as well as a goods station with loading point. The newest additions are thebridge segment over a gorge and a new corner segment with a winter landscape, as well as a track segment showing a typical farmhouse scene in the Allgäu region. The layout is lit up and the houses have been distressed to look old. Some 300 trees and bushes and 200 figures have been used. The layout is operated with a Central Station CS1 and the rolling stock is mainly by Märklin, but also Piko, Brawaand Roco.
