PARENT INTERVIEW AND PLEDGE
Dear Club Member:
As part of your personal pledge to eliminate Styrofoam in your life, it is important to educate your family members and friends so
they can be part of the positive change. In effort to take the campaign to a personal level, we encourage you to speak to your
parents and family members about the harmful effect of Styrofoam and encourage them to make a personal pledge. Return
this form to your club president or faculty advisory.
Mission 08/09:
The Earth Resource Foundation (ERF) Clubs and partner clubs wish to ban Styrofoam throughout the County of
Orange by June of 2009. As a result of the harmful impact of plastic on global ecosystems, economies, and public health,
immediate action must be taken to eliminate single use throwaway plastics. Change must be established in the consumer
lifestyle through education, citizen action, and business accountability. Eliminating Styrofoam is an important action that should
begin at a personal level for the good of our environment and our youth.
Interview Questions: (please write out their answers and any additional questions or comments they might have in detail)
1) Do you know what plastic and Styrofoam are made out of?
2) What are the chasing arrows on the plastic?
3) Do you know what Zero Waste means? If so, please describe
4) What are the three R’s and what is the priority order?
5) What products or behavior changes can they make to eliminate Styrofoam and other disposable items?
6) Would they be willing to make a personal pledge and help you eliminate Styrofoam in your home, school and city? If so,
how?
Example of a Personal Pledge
I recognize the many harmful impacts of Styrofoam not only to the environment but to the health and well being of humans and
the economic negative impacts. My commitment being by eliminating the use of Styrofoam in my personal life and share my
commitment with others. My role is to assist in educating the public of the adverse effects of Styrofoam and provide examples
