Strength and Conditioning Internship Opportunity Somerset County Cricket Club (SCCC) is one of the 18 major County Clubs which make up the English Professional Cricket structure, representing the historic county of Somerset. They have been one of the most consistently performing teams in World Cricket since 2008. Directly reporting to the Head of Strength and Conditioning, but also working closely with the SCCC Lead Physiotherapist, The Somerset Cricket Board Head Coach and the SCCC High Performance Director, the SCCC Strength and Conditioning Intern will be assisting in the provision of support services to the ECB contracted SCCC players, the professional contracted SCCC players, the Somerset Academy players and selected Somerset County Cricket Board (SCB) Performance Players (EPP and Age Groups). Through the winter season this will be quite evenly split between the professional and non professional staff, however the bias will shift through the season towards working with the professional staff. This will give significant coaching experience from both aspects of the career path of a professional cricketer and will be invaluable when moving forward into employment. Previous successful applicants have gone on to gain full time employment at Middlesex County Cricket Club and Oakham School as Lead practitioners. Key responsibilities: To assist in the delivery of Strength and Conditioning, as part of an interdisciplinary support team. To deliver Strength and Conditioning programmes to the EPP and Age Group squads. To develop, implement and evaluate Strength and Conditioning programmes that reflect scientific principles as they relate to adaptation, periodisation, peaking, tapering and injury rehabilitation for professional Cricket in England. Essential requirements Graduate qualifications in Sports Science and/or Strength and Conditioning Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (including presentation skills) Basic life support training within the past two years Full Driving Licence Computer literacy, including MS office, excel and performance analysis software Current Professional indemnity insurance cover Desirable requirements A postgraduate qualification specialising in Strength & Conditioning and/or Sports Physiology/Science. Experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of Strength and Conditioning programmes for elite cricketers. Advanced emergency management and on field resuscitation qualifications. UKSCA accreditation is also desired, although if this is not in place, a mentorship program may be delivered by the Head of Strength and Conditioning to assist in gaining accreditation. Any UKSCA related fees must be met by the intern. No financial provision will be made by SCCC. Salary This is an unpaid position A two month probation period will apply Relevant Club kit will be provided and meals will be provided during the 2014 season on match days.
