Applied Health Sciences PhD Program University of Manitoba GRADUATE STUDENT TRAVEL/RESEARCH FUND GUIDELINES FOR FUNDING Travel The main objective of this award is to provide graduate students in the Applied Health Sciences PhD Program with the opportunity to participate in and to present their research at academic conferences; the objective being an enhancement of their academic credentials and professional development through exposure to the national and international scientific community. Application Deadlines April 1, /October 1 The following guidelines are intended to serve two purposes. First, it will systematize the process by providing guidelines for funding these requests. Second, it will publicize the availability of assistance and the procedure to be followed to obtain funding. Guidelines The maximum value of the award is $750 per student per year for travel within Canada or $1000.00 per student per year for international travel (depending on available funding). AHS Admissions/Awards committee will review applications and determine successful applicants. Priority will be given to students who have not received funding for travel or for research in the previous year. Students who receive an AHS Travel Award will normally be expected to present at the AHS Research Day. A. To be eligible for a travel award, a student must: 1. be enrolled in the Applied Health Sciences PhD program. 2. be presenting a paper or poster at a conference based on research conducted while a student in the Applied Health Sciences PhD program at The University of Manitoba. B. Authorization for payment will be made in accordance with the University of Manitoba policy. C. Applications should be submitted to Tobi Hawkins, AHS Program Assistant, 202 Active Centre (tobi.hawkins@umanitoba.ca, 474-7806). Students should also submit a copy of their letter of acceptance for their presentation at the conference. The student's advisor must sign the application. The signature will be taken as their endorsement of the request. D. Students are asked to provide, to the Director of the AHS PhD program, a brief (one page) description of their experience at the conference immediately upon return from the conference. E. The Director of the AHS PhD Program reserves the right to deny funding should the request not be in keeping with the objectives or if funds are not available. G. The Director of the AHS PhD Program reserves the right to fund extraordinary opportunities outside the bounds of this policy. H. Students and faculty members should note that there are other sources of funding that may be appropriate to pursue, such as the Faculty of Graduate Studies Travel Award.
