Once upon a time . . .
Most fairytales begin with these words. And just in time for Valentines Day, a very special
fairytale unfolds at the Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell. The Painted Lady & The Glass Man: A
Modern Fairytale is the creation of painter, Tracy Levesque and glass artist, Peter Zimmerman.
“The show is a love story,” says Levesque. “It’s inspired by an original fairytale we wrote
together, about a man who falls in love with a painting of a beautiful woman and must transform in a
number of ways in order to be united with her. It really is a story about transformation. We loved this
concept because art is all about transformation and we’ve really had the opportunity to show this through
our creations.”
Revisit the lands of your childhood imagination in this exhibit that explores common folkloric
and fairytale themes, and recreates them in a totally unique way. “Books were a huge inspiration for both
of us as children,” explains Zimmerman. “We both were library brats who lost ourselves in stories most
of our childhood lives. As artists we wanted to revisit that magical world and share it through our
artwork.”
Follow this fairytale, submerged in magic, as told in fantastical colors and light, through the
works of these two long-time Western Avenue Studios and Loading Dock Gallery member artists. An
opening reception for Levesque and Zimmerman will be held Saturday, February 6, from 5 to 7pm,
immediately after First Saturday Open Studios at Western Avenue Studios.
Also that evening, Levesque and Zimmerman will give an artists talk from 7-8 pm in the Onyx
Room (also at Western Avenue Studios). The talk will kick off an evening of entertainment including
music by Bucky Fereke and the Pony Express, a silent auction and a charity Masquerade Ball, supporting
the Miracle Providers.
The Painted Lady & The Glass Man: A Modern Fairytale will run through the month of
February at the Loading Dock Gallery at Western Avenue Studios, Lowell MA. Loading Dock Gallery, a
part of Loading Dock Arts, Inc. is open Wednesday through Saturday, 12 noon to 5:30 pm and Sunday 12
