Bob Stevenson qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1966, graduating from Glasgow University with commendation.
He has worked in three different veterinary practices, finally becoming senior partner in a ten veterinarian practice
employing twenty five people. During his career he has become most interested in preventive medicine in particular
involving swine and bovines. After studying the causes and prevention of young pig mortality he obtained an
additional Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons qualification in pig medicine (CertPM). In 1992 Bob was elected
President of the Pig Veterinary Society in the UK and in 1995 was elevated to President of the British Veterinary
Society. It was during his year as president that the UK government announced that the most likely cause of a new
variety of CJD (Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease) was the consumption of beef. During his veterinary career Bob has been
involved, and remains active, in veterinary and agricultural teaching. Having instructed on an Advanced Pig Husbandry
course for twenty years and been a guest lecturer to Liverpool Veterinary School in Preventive Medicine, he remains
active in both assessing and verifying candidates who which to gain qualifications in the safe use of veterinary
medicines. Bob holds positions on several British Veterinary Association committees and is currently one of the four
Western European councillors to the World Veterinary Association.
Bob is married with two daughters and enjoys long distance running for charity.
