RSAC Bridging Support Awards & External Award Supplements
Due November 1, 2011
General Information: Bridging Support Awards provide support to OU-HCOM faculty when 1)
external grant funding has been lost within the past year and a request for continued funding is pending or 2)
the budget to an externally-funded proposal has been cut and additional funds are needed to fully complete
the project or 3) external grant submission was ranked close to the funding line, but denied funding or 4)
other unique circumstances as determined by RSAC. Applicants electing to submit to this category
must consult with the Chair of RSAC regarding their proposal prior to submission.
Maximum Award Amount: $25,000
Budget Restrictions: The budget cannot exceed the yearly budget of the original award or proposal.
Eligible budget items include: supplies, equipment, research travel, salary support for personnel
(excluding salary support for Group 1 and/or Group 2 faculty), and costs associated with recruitment and
participation of human subjects.
Deadline: Proposals will be accepted only when a call for proposals has been issued by RSAC.

Proposal Guidelines and Preparation Instructions
All proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF Format. Proposals must be single-spaced, with
1" margins and no smaller than 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. Proposals must include all
components in the order listed below. Proposals that do not follow the guidelines outlined below will
be returned to the faculty member for revision or withdrawn from funding consideration.
1. Cover Page: Includes name(s) of investigator(s), project title, amount requested and type of award,
as specified on the enclosed cover sheet.
2. Project Summary (1-page limit): The summary should be a description of the activity. It should
be informative to persons working in related fields and understandable to the scientifically or
technically literate lay reader. The project summary must contain:
A. a statement of objectives or specific aims,
B. specific and clear research hypotheses,
C. methods to be employed, and
D. the significance of the proposed activity.
3. Rationale for Request (1-page limit): Explain the need for the request and how it relates to your
overall research program and your attempts to obtain external funding. Please indicate whether any
component of this proposal has previously been submitted to an internal (e.g., OURC) or external
funding agency. List the organization and date of submission. If grant reviews from previous
submissions are available, please submit them as Supplemental Information.
4. Project Description (5-page limit): The Project Description must be organized as follows:
A. Introduction (Suggested Length = ½ page);
B. Specific Aims with Hypotheses (Suggested Length = ½ page);
C. Significance (Suggested Length = ½ page);
D. Experimental Design with Detailed Methods and Analysis Plan (Suggested Length = 3 pages);
and
E. Timeline (Suggested Length – ½ page)
5. References to Project Description: All references must include the list of authors, title of the
article, journal name, issue, year of publication, and relevant page numbers.
6. Biographical Sketch(es) (for each Investigator; 4-page limit each): NSF or NIH biographical
sketches will be accepted as long as they include the relevant information listed below. A
biographical sketch of the investigator(s) must include:
A. Professional Preparation;
B. Academic Appointments;
C. Recent and Significant Publications and
D. Grant Activity: List all current and pending external and internal support (including amounts), as
well as grant submissions and re-submissions during the previous three years. Please indicate
titles and role on all grants.
7. Budget, Budget Justification and Current and Pending Support (2-page limit): Please use the
enclosed budget worksheet.
8. Checklist and Supplemental Information: Complete and enclose the attached Checklist. Final
reports for previous funding from RSAC since 2008-2009 must be included, if not already on file.
Other Supplemental Information should include copies of Environmental Health and Safety or
Research Compliance (IRB or IACUC) approvals, grant proposals, and grant reviews, if applicable.
Proposals MUST be submitted electronically as a compiled PDF.

A. Budget and Budget Justification: Please provide a detailed budget and budget justification for the
proposed project. A detailed budget must include itemized personnel costs, travel, equipment and
supplies, and other expenses. A justification of each category must be included. Matching funds should
be sought in the case of large equipment purchases, and documentation of these funds must be included.
A justification for the need for RSAC funding must also be provided.
B. Current and Pending Support: Please provide information on all current and pending funds
available for the proposed project.
Grant Funds: Please list all submitted and awarded grants (internal and external) that are associated with
the proposed project. For each grant, include the amount of the grant request or award, funding agency,
date submitted or award period, and indicate whether the funds have been awarded or the grant is
pending.
Discretionary Funds (over $10,000 total): Please detail the amount you have available for the project.
As RSAC tries to fund as many worthy projects as possible, matching funds are encouraged for all
proposals.
