 Training- Do not use the light box unless you have the knowledge required to do so safely. If in doubt, seek
advice from Gary Keenan and or Paul Curmi or others trained in the use of these machines.
 Users should read and understand the User manuals for these units and always follow these user manual
instructions and never attempt to override the existing safety controls.
 Wear normally required lab PPE
 Wear UV face mask
 Before turning on the unit visually check that the plug and cable are in good condition and the unit is PAT.



When using the unit warn any others in the lab that you are about to use the UV lightbox . Close the curtain (or door)
Turn on the unit .
When finished working turn off the UV light box and inform others in the lab that the UV light box is turned off.


Power off electrical equipment – Use wall mounted RCD switches (located around the lab)
Turn off natural gas supply use emergency Gas off switch near front door.

7.List Emergency procedures for how to deal with fires, spills or exposure to hazardous substances
Fire: Cover the fire with a fire blanket if it can be fully contained underneath the blanket otherwise use a fire extinguisher.
Carbon dioxide or dry powder is suitable.
Turn off natural gas at the emergency switch.
Be prepared for re ignition, especially if equipment is involved: do not leave the scene unless fumes or smoke become
hazardous.
Spill: see spills procedures SWP 90,91,92
Exposure: remove contaminated protective clothing and examine your clothes for contamination which may have
soaked through. If day clothing is contaminated, remove, and wash skin under running water immediately for 15 minutes
or until medical attention arrives.
In EMERGENCY get under safety shower and turn it on.
If Oxygen depletion alarm sounds leave lab immediately from outside laboratory ring 56666 do not enter
laboratory if alarm is sounding.
8.List Clean up and waste disposal requirements
Any broken glass must go into the broken glass waste. For spills use the correct spill kit if required .Dispose of
chemical waste and biohazard waste by the proper method.
