1. About SCORE
Enhancing the global competitiveness of the small and medium manufacturers in the value chain of
high-growth sectors such as automobiles, food processing, textiles, readymade garments (RMG) etc.
is a priority for ILO and FICCI for creation of more and better quality jobs in India. In this regard, since
2012, ILO-FICCI have been delivering a modular management training, ‘SCORE’ (or Sustaining
Competitive and Responsible Enterprise), to the manufacturing units (with 30-250 employees) in India
(visit: http://www.ilo.org/empent/Projects/WCMS_141822/lang--en/index.htm for further details on
SCORE).
SCORE is a global enterprise management tool designed by ILO, especially for the small and medium
manufacturers to improve their market adaptability, responsiveness as well as ability to cope with the
productivity and working condition challenges uniquely associated with this sector.
SCORE training portfolio comprises of 5 modules with each module resonating around a key
productivity and cost bleeding factor- workplace cooperation, quality management, clean production,
human resource management, and occupational health and safety. Training on each module includes
a two-day classroom joint training for managers and workers followed by on-site coaching visits by
ILO trained SCORE trainers to the manufacturing unit. SCORE Module 1 on Workplace Cooperation
is a mandatory module whereas the other modules are optional which a manufacturing unit may enrol
for depending upon its need. Shop-floor implementation of each SCORE module in a manufacturing
unit takes 2.5 - 3 months.
SCORE focuses on developing cooperative relations at the workplace as an essential base and
foundation for building the capacity of the manufacturing unit to adopt and systematically practise the
new modern management practises such as 8D, Balance score card, Lean Tools, 7 QC tools etc.
