John Albert Anderson
John Anderson’s career in banking spans over 39 years. He joined the British Linen Bank,
Huntly, in 1966, resigning in 1970 to emigrate to Australia where he worked for the ANZ
Banking Group. On returning to Scotland in 1972, he joined the Bank of Scotland in Ballater
and was then transferred to London Chief Office in May 1975. He progressed through
various posts and was appointed a Senior Manager in the Bank’s Treasury Division in 1992.
He was then appointed Chief Manager, Treasury IT, Bank of Scotland Treasury Services PLC
in 1998 and Head of Treasury Operations in 1999. In 2001, upon the merger of Bank of
Scotland and Halifax, he was appointed Head of Treasury Operations, Bank of Scotland
Treasury Services PLC and Halifax Bank. In 2002 he was appointed a Director and Head of
Operations, HBOS Treasury Services plc.
Russell Miller Gibson
Russell Gibson joined RBS in 1976 in Glasgow. He worked in various branches there before
moving to Head Office in Edinburgh in 1983 and from there moved to the International
Division in London in 1985. He attended INSEAD and the Harvard Business School. In 1992,
Russell was appointed Deputy Manager at the Bank's New York office and remained there
until 1998 when he returned to London. In 2001, Russell became the Bank's first Chief
Operating Officer for continental Europe and this followed a return to the US in 2004 to
be Manager of the New York Branch. In early 2008, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer
for Latin America. Russell is also Vice Chairman of the Institute of International Bankers in
New York. He is married with three children and his main interest outside the Bank is music.
Linda Ann Mortimer
Linda joined Halifax plc in 1999 as a member of the original ‘Greenfield’.Co’ project team to
set up what was to become Intelligent Finance. Initially responsible for Learning and
Development, Linda was appointed Director of Human Resources in September 2001. Prior
to this she enjoyed a number of roles within Standard Life and was instrumental in the
delivery of corporate projects including Standard Life Bank. Linda has had a ‘portfolio’ career
primarily in customer services and learning & development and has worked for major
organisations including British Airways, Sky and Scottish Provident. For four years she was
also joint owner of a restaurant and catering business. She is a member of the Standards
Council of the Call Centre Association and the Business Development Committee of the
CIOBS. Linda was born and educated in Edinburgh and is CII and IPD qualified.
Ian Thomas Stewart
Ian Stewart’s career started with The Royal Bank of Scotland plc in 1969. During his early
years Ian had a variety of jobs in retail banking moving to Head Office in 1982. In 1994 he
was appointed Regional Manager of Roynet, the Bank’s Merchant acquiring business in
Scotland and Northern Ireland. In 1996 he became the Senior Manager in charge of the
Bank’s Card Developments and led the strategy for developing microchip-based cards within
RBS. He was also appointed as a director to the Board of Switch Card Services Ltd.
Following the successful take-over of NatWest Bank in 2000, Ian was appointed to the Head
of Debit Cards in RBSG. Ian is currently Chairman of the Board of S2 Card Services Ltd in
the UK, he is a UK representative on MasterCard’s European Debit Card Group and is the
sole UK Director on MasterCard’s global Debit Advisory Board. Ian has had articles
published in the specialist journals Cards International and the European Card Review.
