Grass Head Guys ACTIVITY SUBMITTED BY SHARLA HARTZELL, DOVER MS UNIT: Exploring the 16 Occupational Clusters TASK: Define the 16 career cluster classification system. ACTIVITY TYPE: SCANS APPROXIMATE TIME: One class period MATERIALS: Grass seed (quickest growing), potting soil, knee-high stockings, small Styrofoam cups, scissors, crayons or colored pencils PROCEDURE: 1. Spoon grass seed into the knee-high stockings. 2. Pour potting soil into the stocking until you have a ball of soil that is about two inches in diameter. 3. Tie a knot in the stocking so that the soil will hold its ball shape. Do not cut the tail off the stocking. 4. Glue or draw a set of eyes on your Grass Head Guy and then draw a nose and mouth using crayons or pencils. You may use waterproof markers. 5. Pour one to two inches of water in the Styrofoam cup. 6. Place your Grass Head Guy in the cup, making sure the nylon tail sits in the water. You may also decorate the container to look like a body. 7. Check the water in the container daily.
