Role Description
About the Lancashire Wildlife Trust
We are part of the Wildlife Trusts movement, the UK's leading conservation charity
dedicated to all wildlife. We are your local charity, working hard to improve your local area
for wildlife and for you.
The Trust manages over 2,000 acres of some of the region's most precious wild places in the
form of 37 nature reserves and 20 Local Nature Reserves. These provide places where
wildlife can thrive and people can relax and enjoy the wealth of our natural heritage.
About the Industrial Wildlife Project
The Industrial Wildlife project is based along the course of the Kingfisher Trail, an eleven
mile recreational route which connects the rural West Pennine Moors to the urban
communities of Bolton, Bury and Salford. Running alongside the Bradshaw Brook, River Croal
and River Irwell the route provides a resource which has the potential to be regionally
important for people, wildlife and heritage.
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has been working on individual sites along the Kingfisher Trail
for over 20 years. Sites include Seven Acres Local Nature Reserve, Leverhulme Park Local
Nature Reserve and Nob End SSSI. However, this is the first time we have had the resources
to focus on its entire length which is extremely exciting and vital linked to the deteriorating
condition and lack of awareness of the route amongst the public.
