Thank You for entrusting us with the responsibility to teach you how to drive. Our
instructors have a great amount of teaching experience and are all well aware of the excellent
qualities that comprise a competent driver.
All of our courses are accredited and licensed by the Registry of Motor Vehicles; our cars are
dual controlled and air-conditioned, and all of our driving and classroom session instructors
are certified by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Driver’s Education Course
Students between the ages of 16 and 18 are required to take a driver’s education course in order to get
their driver’s licenses. Each student is issued an “Appointment Card” which is used to track his or her
progress. Upon completion of the course, students must turn in their “Appointment Card” to the
school. NDS will in turn notify the RMV of the students’ completion of driver’s education. Notice of
completion will be posted on the RMV website (please allow 7 to 10 days for processing).
Once notice of completion appears on the RMV website, students are allowed to schedule a road
test.
Components of Driving Education Course
-30 hours of classroom
-12 hours of driving
-6 hours of observation
-2 hour parental/guardian class

1. Classroom Instructions (30 hours)
The purpose the classroom is to educate and familiarize students with MA motor vehicle laws
and with safe and proper operations in accordance with the guidelines set by the Registry of
Motor Vehicles.
Attendance is mandatory. If students miss certain classes, they have to make them up. Students
will not be issued a certificate if any classes are outstanding.
Class may be cancelled in case of inclement weather. For any updates, please contact the main
number (617-332-6323).
All students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin at the scheduled starting time.
A student needs to have a legitimate, documented reason for being late.
Requirements of Classroom Sessions:
 Properly maintained notebook and a folder (provided by students)
 Driver’s manual from RMV must be brought to every class
 Pass periodic quizzes given at teacher’s discretion
 Students should conduct themselves with respect to teachers and classmates
 Students need to be on time
 Writing on walls and on desks in class will result fine of $50
 Students arriving more than 10 minutes late to class will be considered absent.
 Students must satisfactorily complete and pass the class requirements of their class instructor. A
grade of 70% or higher is required to receive the Driver Education Certificate. Students who fail
driver’s education are required by the state of MA to retake the program. It is the financial
responsibility of the student to pay for retaking of a driver education program.
Intensive Classes
There will be one-week intensive courses during: December, February and April vacations and
summer classes. If students started classes during the school year, then they need to sign up for
intensive courses in advance. Students MUST sign up in advance in order to be allowed to sit in
class.
Any kind of disruptive behavior, such as arguing with NDS instructors for any reason, will result
in a suspension from classroom or driving sessions without a refund. Any suspicions that a
student is under the influence will result in the same suspension. We have a zero-tolerance policy
for disrespecting Massachusetts law or NDS staff.
2. On-The-Road Instruction: 12 hours of Driving and 6 hours of Observation
On-Road instructions are scheduled separately from classroom session times, after completing
classroom session hrs.
No student shall have more than one (1) on –road session per day and no session shall be more than
two (2) hours in length.
Use of seatbelts is mandatory. Eating, drinking and listening to music will not be allowed
at any time. Cell phones are only allowed to be used in case of emergencies.

Driving Lessons will be cancelled less than 24 hrs if:
- A public school system cancels classes for weather-related reasons; road lessons scheduled in the
school system’s community will be canceled automatically for the entire day.
- NDS instructors may also cancel driving lessons when weather conditions are considered unsafe.
To determine if your driving lessons has been cancelled, please call us. You may reschedule a new
lesson at no additional fee if your lesson was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
For On-Road instructions, free pick up and drop off is available at the following locations:
 All High Schools in Newton
 All High Schools in Needham
 All High Schools in Brookline
 All High Schools in Wellesley
 Newton Driving School, 50 Winchester St., Newton, MA 02461
 Newton Center T-stations
 Other locations by approval from the Newton Driving School.
Scheduling of on-road instructions is a responsibility of each student. NDS will not call
students to set up appointments. Scheduling can be done over the phone or during classroom
instructions. There is usually a 2-3 week waiting period for driving appointments. Make sure
students write down correct days and times. Please confirm appointments if you are not sure
when they are scheduled. Students cannot be late for appointments. If you are running late,
please call our office to let us know. Make sure that your cell phones are on, so we can get in
touch with you.
The student should try to be available to stay in a car for extra hour of observation.
Learner’s Permit
The original learner’s permit (not a copy) is required for all driving appointments and must be
shown upon entering a driving school car. If a student fails to have his or her original permit
on hand at the time of a driving lesson, he or she will not be allowed to drive and a fee of $30
will charged. This fee can only be paid by checks. Furthermore, all of the additional
appointments will be cancelled until the no-show fee is paid.
Canceling Driving Lesson
If for any reason you cannot keep an appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance so
that we may give it to someone else. Otherwise, we will charge you for this hour. The on-road
driving lesson can be cancelled by calling NDS without a “no-show fee” only in case of the emergency
by parents of NDS students. Sunday and Monday cancellations must be done by Fridays. Notices are
accepted only by calling Newton Driving School (617 332 6323).

3. Parent’s Class: 2 hours
Beginning September 1, 2007, the parent or guardian of a minor seeking a driver's license is required to take a 2-hour
drivers' education course. According to the RMV, "In their special two-hour course, parents will learn about the junior
operator's law and their role in supporting the law, how to teach their child to drive safely, what skills their child needs to
master to pass the road test, and how to identify family member driving behaviors which may negatively influence a new
driver."
PRICES FOR DRIVER’S EDUCATION
For Permits Issued After 09/01/2007 - $640:
30 Classroom Hours
12 hrs of Driving
6 hrs of Observation
2-hr. Parent Class
$20 fee for Certificate of Completion included
If a student wishes to take only the classroom hours at our school, the fee is $250.
Please note:
After the first classroom attendance, tuition is non-refundable; all components of the driver’s
education course – classroom, parent’s class, driving and observation – must be completed
within one year from the date of the first classroom session.
AFTER 1 YEAR, DRIVING HOURS HAVE TO PURCHASED AGAIN AT RATE OF $45 PER
HOUR
AFTER ONE YEAR, ANY INCOMPLETED STUDENT CLASSES MUST BE PURCHASED FOR
$20 PER CLASS. PARENT CLASSES ARE PURCHASED AT $30.
There is no refund if the student does not take driving lessons unless a student has a legitimate excuse.
Each case will be discussed individually. If a student drops out of class, he/she may begin a subsequent
course at no charge. Above "sessions" are scheduled classes, not those simply "attended" by the
students. Moving from the area is not a reason for refund, but some extenuating circumstances will be
considered.
Please note:
When tuition fee is paid in full with a single payment, the student is not responsible for any
supplemental payments in case of a change in price. If, however, the fee is paid in two parts and the
school receives the second payment after a price change, the student is responsible for paying the rest of
the new fee, rather than the fee in place when they first signed up. A fee of $30 will be charged in case
of a bounced check.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES PROVIDED BY NDS
1. Private Lessons
Students may also sign up for private lessons with our driving school at a rate of $45 per hour.
2. Road Test Services
- Fees are paid by cash or money order only in advance; at least 2 weeks prior to the test
- Road Test Fee is $100
- The Road Test Fee does NOT cover RMV fees
- This payment covers following services:
 Scheduling of the road test
 Use of a student driver car
 Sponsorship of Professional Driver Education Instructor
 Pick up and drop off reasonable distance from NDS. It should be discussed with the
administration when booking the test. (We do pick up also from Newton Highland,
Newton Center, Boston College, Nortonville T stations and bus stops around Newton
Center)
Road Test Reschedule or cancellation
You can reschedule the Road Test up to 12 days without fee and please notify us by calling the main
number (617 332 6323) or email ylg152000@yahoo.com. There will be charge of $40 during 12 days
before the test.
Fees from RMV:
- $70 Road Test fee every time student takes a test ($50 license, $20 Road Test fee)
- $70 should be pre- paid to the RMV by the Monday before a Saturday Road Test. Students can prepay over the phone by calling 617 351-4500 or going directly to a local RMV branch.
Students are responsible for exchanging their permit for their license after passing the road test if they
have not pre-paid before taking a Road Test. Students will be issued a temporary license by RMV after
paying RMV fees.
Less than 24 Hour Cancellation Fee from Registry of Motor Vehicles is $20.
