Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the language of Niue. This unit standard involves written
Vagahau Niue;
Contexts refer to communicative situations, topics and settings appropriate to written
Vagahau Niue;
Less familiar refers to topics and settings that may be outside the learner’s normal
personal experience;
Texts refer to coherent and identifiable pieces of spoken or written communication
that may include authentic or edited texts; written texts could include dialogues,
descriptions, discussion, argument, verse, recipe books. Examples of texts are
authentic materials such as newspaper or magazine articles, library texts,
advertisements;
Main points refer to the objective, intention or the most important ideas in written
texts;
Specific details refer to the smaller parts that support and expand on the main points.

This unit standard requires two written texts. Texts may be one or more written
extracts or passages, each in total at least 250 words long. The language of the
texts is to be complex Vagahau Niue.

This unit standard requires written responses in Vagahau Niue. Achievement of the
evidence requirements allows for minor errors in grammar and vocabulary, and for
village-based language differences.

Outcomes one and two are to be assessed twice (once for each text). These
assessments may be on two separate occasions.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.
