1.2 Business experience (present line of business):
Mr. Yalan is a biologist from Cayetano Heredia University, one of the leading universities in Peru, with a specialization
in tropical fish. Mr. Yalan has been deeply immersed in the hobby of tropical fish since 1980 when he was 10 years old
with passion and strong enthusiasm. After graduation in 1985, he worked in internships in various companies from the
United States specialized in the imports and wholesale trade of tropical fish such as MARK WEISS COMPANIES in Ft.
Lauderdale and AQUATECHNICS INC in Miami. In 1997, Mr. Yalan moved to Iquitos to open a company named ITFF
EXPORTS, for the exports of tropical fish, specializing in Discus Fish and having sold to Germany, United States,
Canada, Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia. In 1999, Mr. Yalan started partnership agreements with other local companies for
the exports of tropical fish, co-founding AROWANA EXPORTS in 1999, and expanding to the the exports of AROWANA
species to Hong Kong and Taiwan. He was was the Production Manager of AROWANA EXPORTS until 2003 when he
incorporates NEO TROPICAL FAUNA EIRL.
NEO TROPICAL FAUNA specializes in the wild catch of Discus Fish, its conditioning and exports to Germany, Japan,
Taiwan, Malaysia, England, USA, Canada, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Rusia, etc. In 2005, NEO TROPICAL FAUNA made a
sale of Discus fish to the world famous tropical fish trader and collector Mr. Masahiro Uemura, a Japanese businessman
and owner of a tropical fish company called PET BALOON. NEO TROPICAL FAUNA has established an important
position in the world industry of tropical fish, especially because many of the exported fish have won World
Championship Prizes, such as the Duisburg Championship in Germany. Due to this success, since 2008 the company has
began exploring research and development projects for innovation in captive breeding for high level specialized fish
farming. The company presented in 2008, an innovation project to the Science and Technology Program of the
Government of Peru for “Fresh Water Stingrays Captive Breeding”, where they received a Grant of USD 90,000. The
project was implemented successfully and has concluded in March 2010. NEO TROPICAL FAUNA has also received a
Grant of about USD 80,000 for another innovation project for “Reproduction of Discus, Angel Fish and Corydora Fish”,
which is currently being executed. NEO TROPICAL FAUNA has formulated a new innovation project for “Captive
Breeding of Iridescent Fish (Tetras)” and is planning to formulate the final innovation project for “Captive Breeding of
Catfish” to complete the short-term product development plan.
NEO TROPICAL FAUNA has assets valued at USD 100,00 comprised of about 800m2 of land located in San Juan de
Iquitos just 5 minutes from Iquitos International Airport, and with access to all utility services (water, energy,
communications). The company has a modern infrastructure with the latest technology for fish captive breeding, which
includes a complete fish hatchery laboratory, a high-tech Japanese Nikkon digital photo micrographer and NEO
TROPICAL FAUNA will be purchasing in the coming months a Japanese Nikkon Stereozoom Microscope.

2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
2.1 Describe briefly the purpose of the project:
The project is located in Iquitos in a Land of 10 hectares, for the implementation of the new fish
hatchery with natural water sources for the production of live feed and the growth of the
tropical fish.
The objective of the project is the captive fish reproduction of A1 quality tropical fish for exports
including the following Fresh Water Stingray, Discus Angel Fish Coridora, Iridiscent Fish
(tetras) and Catfish. The project also contemplates the production of live feed for the provision
of food for the fish
The total capacity of production will be 1,000,000 fish (units) per year which includes about
20,000 Stingrays (2%); 150,000 Discus Fish; 630,000 Iridiscent Fish (63%); and 200,000 Catfish
(20%).
Description of Production Process: Hatchery of Fish with an incubation period between 1 week
to 3 months depending of the species with nutrition and growth controls, fish alevins and
juveniles are then transferred to water pool facilities, where they are grown until reaching
commercial size, in a process which takes from 1 to 6 months depending on the species. When
reaching optimal size, each individual fish is selected and classified with a strict quality control
and export criteria. Finally, fish are packaged according to species type and estimated time of
delivery to destination.
Countries in Asia are the primary target market for tropical fish, such as Japan, Taiwan, China
and Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia; also European countries such Germany, England,
France, Russia, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark; and in North America, Canada and the
United States. A new market could be AUSTRALIA but there are still some trade barriers for
tropical fish. The worldwide market for tropical fish is estimated at about USD 2,000 million,
and the main producers and buyers are in Asian countries. Howver, Asia has focused on volume
trading and their quality and prices are significantly lower than the potential supply from the
Peruvian Amazon. Also, Asian supply is having severe problems with fish health and diseases.
Price of Tropical Fish vary depending on the condition of each specimen but is usually set in the
following ranges:
Fresh Water Stingray = USD 300 ~ 1500
Discus Angel Fish Coridora = USD 20 ~ 300
Iridiscent Fish (tetras) = USD 0.50 to 5
Catfish = USD 3 ~ 50
Production Costs for the hatching and growth of tropical fish is relatively stable comprising of
50% balanced fish feed and 50% live feed (proportion depending on each species):
Fresh Water Stingray = USD 90
Discus Angel Fish Coridora = USD 6
Iridiscent Fish (tetras) = USD 0.15
Catfish = USD 0.60
Total investment Project Investment is estimated at USD 1,000,000, which includes the 800m2
laboratory and know-how; and the purchase of about 10 hectares of land (USD 25,000); Land
Preparation and Infrastructure (USD 100,000); Machinery and Equipment and Tools (USD
150,000); High Technology Water Treatment System (USD 100,000); Reproducers (F0) for
species (USD 20,000); Working Capital for Labor (2 biologists and 10 workers) and for Live
Feed farming and Balanced Fish Feed: USD 5,000. During investment implementation the
project aims at obtaining certification with various standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and
the Green Ecological Certification.
Finance Needs:
NEO TROPICAL FAUNA EIRL will be supplying the USD 100,000 of their 800m2 laboratory
and hatchery (will all equipment and know-how), the reproducers (F0) for the four (4) species
and all the development of the live feed. The Project seeks a potential investor, business
partner or long-term commitments from potential clients abroad (with some advance payment)
for the finance of the project and its open to all forms of business cooperation.
