2013 BCHA Homeowners Newsletter Looking Forward to a Super Spring in Bent Creek! A Message from the President – Vicky L. Amen How fortunate we are to have several neighborhood opportunities to look forward to this spring! Hopefully you will find an activity or two that fits your schedule and interests and brings you together with your neighbors. We are fortunate to have an excellent team of volunteers for the neighborhood. Board of Directors President - Vicky L. Amen Vice-President – Stefanie Martinez Secretary – Doug Pedersen Treasurer – Aaron Flaugh Directory Chair– Jan Roos Website Chair – Bruce Hardy Covenants Chair – Vicky Amen Landscaping Chair – Rose Johnson Landscaping Co-Chair – Robbie Rotschafer Landscaping Volunteer Jeff Roe – park mowing, trimming, and maintenance additional Architectural Chair – Mark Sanford Garage Sale Chair – Maureen Kenney Social Chair – VACANCY It has been nearly 1 ½ years since I assumed duties as the Bent Creek Homeowners Association President. Former long term Homeowner Association President Pete Vaccaro and I agreed that ideally a homeowner association president would serve a year as president-elect, one year as the president, and then a year as the past president. While a new job meant that Pete was only briefly available to serve as the past president, we are fortunate to have Stefanie Martinez volunteer to be President-Elect so that I will serve two years as President and one year as Past President. For my upcoming Past Presidency board year, the plan is for me to assist largely with covenant issues and planning for the expiration of our covenants in May 2017. When your paths cross with any of our neighborhood volunteers, please recognize them and extend your gratitude. To all of the neighborhood volunteers, thank you and Keep up the Great Work! We do have a need for Social Committee volunteers. Perhaps you and a neighbor want to work as a team to plan an event. For example, a 4th of July kids’ bike parade is a fun, easy event to coordinate, continue a neighborhood tradition, make some memories, and bring neighbors together. ******************* City of Omaha Neighborhood Clean-up Session On Saturday, April 20th, the Bent Creek Homeowners Association will participate in the annual city of Omaha’s Keep Omaha Beautiful Neighborhood Clean-Up Day. Our clean-up sessions are scheduled for April 13 and 27 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. We will be raking leaves, trimming bushes, spreading wood mulch, and picking up litter. Our first work site will be at the 156th and Cuming Street entrance on April 13th and at the Bent Creek Park on April 27th. We will not be working at the Blondo Street entrance this spring. We need volunteers to help us. All that is required is enthusiasm, a rake and a pair of gloves! We also need wheelbarrows to move the wood mulch if you have one to share. It would be great to see some teenagers show up to help us. This would be a great community service project for volunteer hours for school, church, or boy /girl scouts. Please encourage your teenager to join us! Please consider volunteering for a few hours with our spring clean-up sessions. No experience required! Meet your neighbors, get some exercise, and enjoy time spent outdoors while making your neighborhood look great! Contact Rose Johnson at 402-498-9924 or Robbie Rotschafer at 402-493-5162 with any questions. Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt! The bunny will be hiding eggs at 9:45 if you wish to stop by and help. Any questions please call 402-450-2339 or email flaughfam@cox.net. ****All candy should be individually wrapped please. Directory Update It's that time of year again when you will receive a request to update your personal information to be listed in our neighborhood directory. This year we are asking that you consider providing us at least one email address per household to use as an efficient and economical way to communicate with you about neighborhood news and alerts. In looking at other neighborhoods in our area, we have learned that a neighborhood "email group" is utilized to update residents on events, home owner's meetings and safety alerts. For example, if there is a break-in in the area or someone sees a suspicious vehicle or person, you can email one of the Board members and we can immediately issue a neighborhood alert. We assure you that you will NOT be bombarded with emails from our association. If you do not wish to have your email address published in the directory, but wish to be included in our "email group", please include your email address with a note that it is to be used for the "email group" only. We appreciate your willingness to help us in this regard and encourage you to join us in this new process.
