Several church ministries are currently assisting families who obtain apartments and homes. Moody Methodist is working on locating warehouse space and transportation options to collect furnishings. Information regarding these options will be added as it is received. Until a more specific plan is devised, it may be advisable to ask donors to hang onto donations until we are ready to receive them. The Jesse Tree has developed a furnishings request list to accompany the housing request list. That will be available when the housing request form is completed. Housing Database: Immanuel Baptist Church has developed a database of available properties. Please advise interested applicants to visit one of the case management organizations; Catholic Charities, Community Action Council or The Jesse Tree for screening, assessment and information on housing options. They may complete a housing request form and request information from the housing availability database. This is a new process as of 9/12/05, so be patient, as it unfolds! PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT FEMA funded, it is simply local information being used by local organizations to assist those who are seeking more permanent housing. When FEMA or other assistance becomes available, this process will be revised. We had several requests from organizations on the Bolivar Peninsula, the Mainland and in Brazoria County, requesting that their organizations be added to this guide. Until we can provide a comprehensive listing of those services, it was not feasible to include that information in this update. In addition, it was noted that the census of local shelters was fluctuating on a day-to-day basis. This information will be added to the “Galveston Safety Net” database. Any organization interested in being included should follow the following prcedure: 1) Check the Galveston Safety Net at www.jessetree.net 2) Locate the database for Galveston or Brazoria County under “Search Online Databse for Galveston and Brazoria Counties” 3) Review the database to determine if your organization is included and that the information is current and correct. 4) Submit revised information to the attention of Raffaella Davidson at the following email address: rdavidso@jessetree.net The Jesse Tree received so many requests for copies of The Jesse Tree Journal, that the supply is exhausted. A reprint will be available in the near future. 22 The attached guide was developed by The Jesse Tree to be used by evacuees and by the agencies and organizations assisting them. It will be updated weekly and distributed electronically on Sunday evening, to provide current, correct information each Monday morning. It is equipped with hyperlinks that will guide the electronic user to websites and applications that will be of great importance to evacuees. We suggest you visit one or two to become familiar with options. Any corrections, updates or additions should be emailed to jessetree@aol.com as soon as possible. We are recommending that evacuees call an agency or organization before visiting to assure that a resource is available to save time, gasoline and frustration. We are also extending our hours through the weekend to better respond to the need. At present, we are asking for volunteers to assist with the Friday Food Fairs, each Friday from 8AM to Noon. We need volunteers to assist with blood pressure screening, diabetes screening, registering clients, setting up to distribute fruit and produce, distribute clothing and information to those attending.
