Placement Guideline
Thank you for choosing an Xcelerate Golden Retriever. No doubt, we have spent a
good deal of time getting to know each other over the last few weeks or possibly
months, so most of what follows should just be a written confirmation of the details
we have already discussed in regard to the placement of an Xcelerate Golden
Retriever into your household. Let me be the first to say, “Welcome to the
Xcelerate family and congratulations on your new addition!”

Care of Your Puppy Through Adulthood
Crate. Owner agrees to provide Puppy with his/her own crate at all times; one
that is large enough for the dog to sit, stand, lay down and turn around in
comfortably.
Please make sure that Puppy is in the habit of using of a crate and
accepts it readily. There will no doubt be many instances when Puppy must be
crated for his/her own safety including air and automobile travel, shows, illnesses,
bad weather, visits to the vet, etc. Be sure to provide plenty of fresh, clean water
if Puppy is crated during the day/night.
Housetraining. Breeder has selected owner carefully with the understanding that
Puppy WILL reside as a member of the owner’s household on a daily basis.
Simply put, Golden Retrievers as a breed were not designed to be “outside” dogs.
Our forefathers created their vision of a gentleman’s hunting dog…one that would
hunt with him all day and lay at his feet by the fire at night. That said, please
ensure that Puppy is fully and completely housetrained, including toilet training,
respecting human spaces such as beds, couches, chairs, counter tops, etc. by one
year of age. Please humanely reinforce respect for your objects so that Puppy is
not destroying your home without your constant supervision.
Diet and Growth. Owner agrees to provide Puppy with good quality nutrition in
appropriate amounts to ensure that he maintains a healthy weight and slow, steady
growth rate. Three ingredients that are critical to avoid in your puppy’s diet are:
any type of corn product, any type of synthetic preservative including BHT,
Ethoxyquin, etc., and any type of “animal or plant by-product”.
You will find that
you need to adjust the amount you are feeding at various times throughout the
year, depending on the amount of exercise Puppy is receiving. Your Puppy is
currently eating ½ cup of the following food, three times per day. If you find it
necessary to switch his food for any reason, please contact your breeder prior to
making any changes.
Supplements/Treats. As with most things in life, moderation is key. A good
digestive enzyme, 1000mg of Vitamin C, 400 iu of Vitamin E and 3000mg of a
high quality fatty acid supplement are always a good idea. DO NOT FEED YOUR
DOG COOKED BONES OF ANY KIND OR RAWHIDE/PIGEAR TREATS!
Vaccinations. Owner agrees to maintain age appropriate vaccinations on Puppy,
keeping in mind that less is more. Over-vaccinating can and will strip your dog’s
immune system yielding tragic, irreversible results. Sadly, our vets are over
vaccinating pets across the country everyday.
Your Puppy has already received
his/her first vaccination (see Health Exam Record) and should not under any
circumstances be revaccinated until approx. 12 weeks of age. In the event that
your vet has any questions pertaining to the first vaccination that was given, please
contact:
Dr. Mary Tatum, DVM
Brittmoore Animal Hospital, 713-468-8253
Rabies is NOT to be given in combination with any other shots. Lepto is only
advised in areas where raccoons and possums are indigenous but not until AFTER
one year of age. Lymes is highly discouraged at this time, and Corona is not
necessary in dogs over four months of age. Be sure to consult with your puppy’s
breeder in the event that you have ANY questions pertaining to vaccinations and
when to give them.
Puppy is to be kept on heartworm prevention year round with a blood occult
heartworm test annually. No exceptions!
Exercise. Jumping, jogging, running up/down stairs and other means of “forced”
exercise should be avoided until dogs are two years of age. That said, exercise is
key to the proper growth, emotional and physical well being of your dog, and Puppy
should receive plenty of it as long as he is interested and willing. A good rule of
thumb is to exercise as long as Puppy is interested. Let him be the guide; if he
tires out, it is probably time to take a break or call it a day.
Ideal forms of
exercise include playing with other well-socialized, gentle dogs, walking or running
no more than 2 to 3 miles daily in appropriate temperatures, swimming in clean,
clear water and off lead exercise such as fetching a ball or toy. If you find that
Puppy is limping after normal exercise, provide him/her with crate rest and contact
your breeder immediately.
Training. Owner agrees to attend a puppy kindergarten course and a basic
obedience course by one year of age and to make a consistent, concerted effort to
fully socialize Puppy to children, travel, public places, other friendly dogs and
anything else necessary to ensure Puppy grows up to be a canine good citizen.
Vehicles. Puppy is never to be left outdoors unattended, tied out, or allowed to
ride in the back of a truck or trailer under any circumstances, crated or loose.
Additionally, Puppy is not to be left unattended in a car, locked or otherwise, under
any circumstances, regardless of the weather.
Registrations. Puppy must be registered with Home Again and AKC’s Companion
Animal Recovery service. These are not registries; they are agencies that help
reunite owners with lost pets. Fees to register Puppy will be collected in advance
and breeder will send forms to appropriate agencies en masse with each puppy’s
appropriate contact/alternate contact information as deemed by owner.
AKC papers will be mailed to owners directly from AKC. Fees to register puppy
with AKC will be collected in advance. Breeder will complete the registration form
with applicable owner information, mutually agreed upon registered name and send
directly to AKC for processing. Additionally, AKC registration forms are NOT
provided at puppy pick up. No exceptions.
Spay/Neuter. Companion puppies are sold on limited registration, (i.e., offspring are
not recognized by AKC and may not be registered.) Your companion puppy is not
to be bred under any circumstances and breeder requests that owner spay/neuter
Puppy between the ages of 12 – 15 months. Early spay/neuter has shown a
tendency to result in behavioral, developmental, growth issues and a predisposition
to develop early cancers. Four to six months is too young! Please contact your
breeder in the event that you have any questions or concerns.
Registered Name. Your Puppy will carry the kennel prefix “Xcelerate” and may not
carry any other kennel names or individual names. Breeder reserves the right to
“approve” registered name, which must follow the established litter theme utilizing
the word: ________________________________________________.
Agreed Upon Name: XCELERATE __________________________________.
Termination of Ownership
Owner agrees that under no circumstances is Puppy to be sold, traded, given
away, surrendered to rescue, used for the purpose of vivisection, etc. In the event
that owner is unable to keep Puppy according to the terms outlined herein, owner is
obligated to notify breeder immediately. Breeder has first right of refusal and may
ask that Puppy be returned to breeder’s possession within 30 days at owner’s
expense.
Breeder reserves the right to “buy back” Puppy in the event that the placement is
not beneficial to Puppy and/or owners. Buy back price will be equal to sale price
provided Puppy is in same good condition as when originally placed with owners.
Other/Miscellaneous
Both owner and breeder will notify each other of any changes in address, email or
contact information no less than 30 days prior to changes taking place.
Warranty. Every precaution has been taken to ensure that your Puppy is healthy
and reasonably free from undesirable genes; however, only so much is within a
breeder’s control. As a result, your Puppy is warranted up to 30 months of age to
be free from genetic defects, which would prevent him/her from leading a routine
companion lifestyle as long as the terms of this agreement have been carefully
adhered to. Puppy must have completed required training, must be housetrained,
may not grow overweight, may not be over vaccinated, has not been over/under
exercised and has been fed an appropriate ration of good quality, naturally
preserved kibble.
Payment
Many considerations are factored into the price of your dog. Any additional costs
such as a crate, supplies, registration fees, additional boarding, etc. will be the
responsibility of the owner and added to the total amount due. Any deposit on
account will be deducted from the total amount due. Breeder accepts cash and
checks from Texas residents only. Out of state residents will need to tender
payment in the form of a money order, cashier’s check or cash. No exceptions.
Amount due: $1,200 companion + registration fees – deposit = balance due

guideline are ACCEPTED and agree to abide by the terms and conditions within.

Owner is responsible for any and all legal fees incurred by breeder to enforce the
terms of this agreement and breach of this agreement is grounds for a $5000
penalty payable to breeder in addition to return of Puppy in good condition.
