Degree Audit Update – The Degree Audit Team has set up 68 majors, 88 minors and 22 certificates, to date, in the new student administration system. The team is running into areas where information in the catalog is not complete enough to program, so they are contacting departments to ask them to provide the needed information. This information will then come to UCC to be approved on the consent agenda. There will more departments coming forward with these types of clean up materials at the next few meeting. If a department is not able to provide the needed information, the Degree Audit Team will have to set up audits without the information; which means the affected department will have to manually enter courses for those blocks for each individual student, resulting in more work for the departments. The College of Education is working with several academic departments to flesh out the content emphases for the B.S. in Elementary Education; this is a complex process and will take time for them to complete. In January 2003, the Degree Audit Team will be meeting with the departments’ curriculum liaisons, showing them degree audit reports for each of their academic programs to ensure that their requirements are spelled out correctly. Then the Degree Audit Team will run audits against actual student transcripts to further test the accuracy of the system. When the system goes live a year from now, the team will be running audits for students who plan to graduate under the 20012003 catalog and subsequent catalogs. B. Catalog Schedule. The Catalog Editor reminded everyone that there will not be another paper catalog; instead, future catalogs will only be published on the web. In addition, future catalogs UCC Minutes 10/22/02– Page 2 of 3 will be updated annually, rather than every two years. Because the catalog schedule will no longer involve two months of working with a printer, it will be possible to publish the catalog earlier than in past years, which led the Catalog Editor to suggest reconsidering the schedule entirely. NAU could provide better service to students by making the catalog available March 1, so students wouldn’t be working from outdated information as they preregister for the coming fall semester. Therefore, UCC members were asked for feedback about the possibility of moving to a calendaryear review schedule instead of the current academic-year schedule. Doing so would mean all curriculum changes would be approved by December so the new catalog could be available March 1. UCC members expressed concern about what a big change this would be, but noted that if it would benefit students, the idea ought to be considered. It was decided that this idea should be discussed with the college curriculum committees, to get their input before going any farther. UCC Minutes 10/22/02– Page 3 of 3
