Assignment Sheet and Rubric for “Antebellum / Civil War Group” Project
Directions:
Due – Thursday, September 3rd
- Work in groups of four – you can choose your group members for this project – providing a presentation to the class on one of the
following collection of topics (listed below).
- Your presentation must include:
____ 10-minute presentation minimum time-length
- Every member of your group must be involved in presenting!!!
- Presentations skills to be assessed: - Speakers maintaining eye contact w/ audience
- Speakers use clear, audible voice
- Limited use of filler words (umm, like, etc.)
- Speakers are dressed appropriately
____ PowerPoint presentation
- Must cover all of the content mentioned in the group assignment outlined below!!!
- PowerPoint must include: - Pictures / paintings are used
- Attractive slides
- Avoid just text, in fact type out a
script and minimize, minimize, & minimize number of words on slides
- Text is readable and clear
- Information not taken from textbook is cited at end of PowerPoint on a “References” slide
- At least four questions at the end of the presentation to quiz the class, as these questions could appear on the quiz.
- You will e-mail me your presentation by Thursday, Sept. 3rd (the day we are beginning presentations) –

____ Artwork on Poster board: Draw a picture, invention, scene from everyday life from the historical era the Antebellum Era (the
time before the Civil War) or during the Civil War, such as the following: slave working on a plantation, gold prospector
panning for gold, settlers traveling on the Overland Trail, a “mountain man” trapping furs, a Native American village scene,
Lewis & Clark traveling across the United States, someone using an invention displayed on pages 90-91 (steamboat, locomotive,
telegraph, water frame, cotton gin, etc.), a scene of a battle during the Civil War, soldiers playing baseball (which was invented
during the Civil War) – the possibilities are unlimited.
