12600156 Saving the Planet One Item at a Time The environment is taken for granted. Many do not realize how precious the planet it. Every day, millions are doing daily routines that are contributing to a superior problem. Garbage is not being disposed properly, which causes problems for wildlife. Burning fuel often causes pollution in the air. Global warming is melting the ice in the poles. The list grows longer constantly, effecting everyone. There is only one planet, and the goal of repairing the earth grows complicated each year. If the planet reaches a point of no return, where will we live? This generation has been focused on keeping the environment sacred Some tasks are more tedious compared to others. The main goal is to stop destroying the environment, one simple task that everyone can take part of is recycling. First of all, paper comes from trees. In order to supply paper, millions of trees are required to be cut down yearly around the world. Trees and plants are crucial to the environment. They not only feed countless animals, but they release oxygen into the air so humans can breathe. If there is a shortage on trees, many animals would become homeless and starve to death. There has also been a problem with plastic. Plastic water bottles are not disposed properly, either ending up being burned -which causes more pollution- or left forever in the ground. Besides bottles, plastic is used on many everyday items. These items can be reused, but only if they are recycled. Of course there are pros and cons to everything. In the terms of how recycling affects our planet, there are definitely more positives. Recycling reduces the amount of trees needed to be cut down. This has a trickle down affect and also reduces the amount of trash being disposed into the ground and bodies of waters. One con that effects the environment crucially is not disposing recyclable items properly. It starts with one person to create a trend for everyone to recycle. It is as simple as placing a recycling bin next to a trash. Having accessible bins will make it more convenient for people to recycle. In the state of Arizona, it is rare to see a recycling bin somewhere in public. It is easier to find a garbage can than a recycling bin. While in the state of California, recycling bins are seen more often. Not all states have an organization that will be able to make this happen, but it only takes one person. Furthermore, if recycling bins were more convenient, it would make it effortless for those to recycle. Each week there are trash pickups so those at home can have their garbage disposed of. If there was an extra day each week in each state just specifically for recyclable items, it would be easier for families. There are many cities across the nation that does not have weekly recycle pickups. If this day was done nationally, millions more would participate in making it a habit to recycle. Everyday items that can be tossed in the recycling bin include: newspapers, drinking bottles, plastic grocery bags, and even glass. All these items are in homes, and can easily be reused if recycled. As of right now, making posters and providing recycling bins in each classrooms in the schools in the community would be a great start. Although my school already has them, many other schools are not educated on the subject. Having posters with recyclable items can give knowledge to not only kids, but to adults as well. Starting young to get into the routine of disposing items correctly will have immense effects later. This is just a tiny task to take a part of. To go above and beyond is to start a national recycling program, which is something I am interested in doing. This could become a program where it is required to have a convenient station to recycle goods in public places. There is also a start to have pickups in each neighborhood weekly. Items add up, if everyone can do their part in recycling, our planet can stay our home.
