Resolving The Paradox Between Psychology And Spirituality

Human development strategy.
I didn’t keep track of all people that served me in becoming what I have always been, a human. So I hope they
will forgive me for not mentioning their names. Thank you everybody!
When you read this paper please identify yourself with ‘I’. It will enable you to see through my eyes. So start
reading again.
Solving the paradox of self actualisation and enlightment.
The psychology of transcendence and the spiritual idea of transcendence might look like a contradiction to most
of us. As far as I understood, psychologists believe that through the proper application of intelligence and selfcognition one can have a full and enjoyable life, with wealth, health, and a great relationship, as well as a sense
of communal belonging and contribution. In a lot of cases however this leads to greed and practitioners of this
belief are pushed easily out of balance, because too often with their ratio they push their feelings aside. I believe
that the internal conflicts that are manifest in these people lead to mental and physical disorders. (quadrant 3,
model on last page)
Those in spiritual groups, in particular of an eastern orientation, believe that one has to get rid of the lustful ego
that craves only fleeting things and to unify with divine consciousness. This often leads to behaviour that
separates practitioners of this believe from the rest of the world. (quadrant 2)
The most popular compromise to resolve this contradiction is that you have to build up the self and let it go. In
Vedic philosophy this is expressed as becoming a householder in the first stages of life then retiring to pursue
transcendence.
However, because of cognitive dissonance, most believe that they should choose one view or the other. Thus,
there are those who believe that they should be worldly and experience the world as it appears to be (quadrant 3).
Then there are those who believe that they should reject the world and dedicate themselves to getting out of the
misery of the cycle of birth and death (quadrant 2).
As I am able to accept all interpretations above as part of a yet unseen total reality, I realize that what seems to
be a contradiction will turn out to be a paradox the moment I examine it from a higher abstraction level. My
frames automatically generate the energy flow needed to resolve all paradoxes. The most important frame I set
is: “Unity accepts duality.” Duality doesn’t tolerate unity. (Kortman & Kemperman 2005, Bommetje, een
aanslag op je ego. ISBN-13: 978-90-78222-01-8)
Buddhists say there is "no-self.". I say there might be, but does it matter? I believe that all identifications reduce
(the bandwidth of) our consciousness. So will the identification with the Self. Therefore I don’t identify myself
with a static idea of ‘my Self’. ‘My Self’ is dynamically integrated in all that is. ‘My’ conscious ‘Self’ seems to
be the explorer of unconsciousness. I am. (Kortman & Kemperman 2006, Bommetje 2, het orakel leiderschap.
ISBN-13: 978-90-78222-02-6)
At a subatomic level there is no substance. Since consciousness is not a substance it resides at this level, were
probability patterns flit in and out of existence! Now this is what I call ‘the land of endless possibilities’.
Unconsciousness seems to be consciousness in superposition.
Personal growth and advancement is necessary, because on this level there is literally nothing else to do then
exploring the adventure of life. You can either resist evolution and suffer all kinds of lack or you can embrace
evolution and the refining of mind and enjoy fulfilment of resources and experiences. (that is perceived as
happiness)
So, when you look at things from the view of levels of perception, all contradictions disappear. This
understanding will enable us to make the most meaningful and powerful performance choices on the spot. To
reach this we need to set our frames of meaning at the highest possible levels of abstraction and continue doing
so as we grow. Imagine this program as the meta of all meta programs. This will even give us the possibility to
cover the full range of all meta programs by dynamic choice. Our behaviour becomes a choice to benefit the
required results. I have figured out a path towards this dimension of being. It is possible to be engaged in the
world and to actually enjoy it and at the same time to enjoy meditation and contemplation to experience inner

freedom. It is by no means an easy path, but after a while, they will support each other. Material success and
harmonious relationships will give you the opportunity to retreat to your inner work. Similarly your inner work
will contribute to your increase of abundance and maintaining a loving relationship with others.
There are psychologists that say that we need to be careful with excessive choice. Barry Schwartz, the author of
‘Paradox of choice’ wrote: ”Choice overload can make you question the decisions you make before you even
make them, it can set you up for unrealistically high expectations, and it can make you blame yourself for any
and all failures. In the long run, this can lead to decision-making paralysis. And in a culture that tells us that
there is no excuse for falling short of perfection when your options are limitless, too much choice can lead to
clinical depression.”
Of course I see the above as an important observation and as a part of the unseen total reality, but I can also see
the limited context in which it is true. It appears in behaviour of people with excessive need for having (greed).
In such case we need to have more and more. Not getting more for whatever reason must feel like stopping an
addiction the cold turkey way. However within an other context, where we get rid of our addictions and just
fulfil our basic needs we move toward divine consciousness, towards being, towards being able to face endless
possibilities while making the right choices on the spot, often without consciously thinking about those in
advance. We act, we just do! Here intuition is outperforming thinking, power and control. This is the new world
the new paradigm and some have already been living in it for a while.
The way to engage with issues like greed, bad health and one-sides reproductive education is to fill the gap we
experience in human development. I believe that me and my partner made impressive progress in this field with
our management development program, which in fact is a human development program that closes the gap
between just stacking knowledge and knowing that comes from the inside out in an authentic manner.
Stacking knowledge or really developing people
Not integrated stacked knowledge leads to uncertainties about "self" and ones purpose in life. These issues
course internal conflicts in humans which lead internal problems (f.e. illness) and external problems (f.e.
economic crises caused by greed). They are the biggest barrier, inhibiting us from realizing our full potential
and achieving peak performance.
These concepts are undoubtedly important and of fast growing relevance. Nevertheless, through reproductive
education, literature and skill trainings one cannot really acquire such qualities in a authentic and durable way.
Therefore we notice a growing gap between what people want to or should do and what they are actually doing
or are able to do.
PK² adressing the gap
As you may have understood already we do not use new science or teachings. Everything we use is already
there. The only thing new is the way we give meaning to these teachings and the way we use the models and
practices that were developed. We do not feel bound by these teachings. Our way of treating all contradictions
like paradoxes lead to a wider view and an understanding beyond those teachings and models. We are greatfull
to our masters and teachers, but most of them don’t realize this because we created our own knowing using
theirs. Now, we are our own masters, teachers and guides in spiritual and philosophical matters and its our aim to
help people to grow beyond those models as well. Teachers and Masters often say “People need a map” and
than stick with that idea for the rest of their lifes. We understand their way of looking at the world, but we
believe that the need for maps, believes, ideas and choices is only temporarily, because these eventually block
our development.
Most IQ based models we use come from the field of the ‘Cognitive Behavioral Sciences’, from ‘Developmental
Psychology’, the ‘neuro-sciences’, ‘General Semantics’, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Cognitive Llinguistics,
Cybernetics, and System Dynamics and the meta-states model of Neuro-Semantics.
The SQ based teachings come from Buddhism, the old Polynesian teaching of Hawaii, The Bible, Chinese,
Greek and Roman mythology and meaning making teachings from both scientific background as well as old
teachings.
The EQ related knowing. Our own feelings that we perceive as guidance towards our goal. Living our purpose.

This resulted in new models and meaning and helped us to grow beyond the models that helped us in the first
place. Of course these new models are temporary help as well.
Positioning PK²’s human development modules 1 and 2
Module 1. Is our people/management development co-training focusing on becoming consciously aware of
meaning, about one self, powers, intention, time, others, the world and the links between all of these aspects of
the same. Participants will discover this all during intense experiences.
This module is important for those who want to experience a healthy balance between doing and the purpose of
doing things. Depending on ones preference there normally is:
1.
to much emphasis on knowledge and control, resulting in static acting within
frames and models. Rigidly being comfortable hiding behind rules and
procedures …….or……
2. there is to much emphasis on creation of meaning. Meaning creation becomes a
purpose of its own resulting in a lack of achievements……..or……
3. there is to much emphasis on performance. Resulting in ‘must do’, ‘so much to do’
and being busy while suffering from a lack of purpose.
People in quadrant 2 en 3 create to much stress. Internally and externally. This leads to illness of these people
and if they have a management position also to absence of their co-workers.
People in quadrant 1 that remain open to personal development are a blessing for the company. On the other
hand if they don’t develop for a larger period of time they become inflexible. Either way, they have a large
impact on the organisation.

Module 2 is for those people who want to grow beyond the models and teachings that helped them in the first
place and fully want to develop their personal leadership. This is about transformation and self actualisation and
becoming the interface between the dynamics of life and the static character of the organisation.
