RELEASE OF LIABILITY
As a psychotherapist, Kerry Borcherding’s goal is to enhance the overall well-being of
individuals through their involvement with horses. She believes that equine assisted
psychotherapy is an experiential way for people to learn about themselves and others by
interacting and being in relationship with horses. As a result, people can experience emotional
growth and healing. Participants will learn through grooming, groundwork, bareback riding, herd
dynamics, and individual and group processing.
Please read the following carefully and sign below.
1. I acknowledge the importance of my own personal responsibility around horses.
2. I understand that riding, equine-assisted psychotherapy, and otherwise engaging in
equine activities is subject to certain risks that could result in injury, death, illness
or disease, and/or physical or mental damage to myself, my property, spectators or
third parties.
3. I realize that a horse, regardless of its training and usual past behavior and
characteristics, may act or react unpredictably at times based on instinct or fright,
which is an inherent risk I assume.
4. I hereby release Kerry Borcherding, and anyone associated with Kerry Borcherding,
from any claim for injury or death resulting from the inherent risks of equine
activites. I understand that by signing this release, I am waiving any claim that I
may have against Kerry Borcherding for any injury or death resulting from the
inherent risks of equine activities.
5. In addition, I hereby release Kerry Borcherding, and anyone associated with Kerry
Borcherding, from any claim for injury or death resulting from or related to horses
or my interaction or involvement with horses, including any claim that Kerry
Borcherding was negligent in any way. This release will include, but not be limited
to, any claim that Kerry Borcherding provided me with faulty equipment and any
claim that Kerry Borcherding failed to make a reasonable and prudent effort to
determine my ability to engage safely in an activity related to horses. I understand
that by signing this release, I am waiving any claim that I may have against Kerry
Borcherding for any claim for injury or death resulting from or related to horses or
my interaction with horses, including any claim that Kerry Borcherding was
negligent.
I understand under Colorado Law, an equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death
of a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities pursuant
to Section 13-21-119, Colorado Revised Statutes.
