ST EDMUNDS PRESCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION Post: MANAGER Responsible to: St Edmunds Preschool Chairperson Hours of duty: 9.15 – 3.15 Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 9.15 – 1.15 Wednesday & Friday inclusive for 38 weeks per annum or in accordance to any changed to the standard academic year made by the LEA. Post – Person responsible: The person responsible will provide effective and efficient management of the St Edmunds Preschool and to ensure a safe learning environment for children, staff, visitors and parents. To ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and applicable standards for sessional groups, and working within the Preschool Learning Alliance Policies and Procedures which have been amended and adopted specifically for our group. To plan and run the school holiday play schemes. Duties Main duties can be summarised as follows: 1. To ensure a safe environment for the children an adults in the group including ensuring that: a) furniture, toys and equipment is well maintained and safe to use and conforms to BSEN Safety Standards or the Toys (Safety) Regulations (1995), keeping the committee informed of any broken/faulty equipment disposed of or any new equipment purchased in order to keep the inventory up-dated. b) Good hygiene standards are maintained. c) Safety procedures for fire evacuation are practised regularly and a written record kept of evacuation drills. d) Arrival/departure procedures are enforced and children are kept safe during the session itself. e) To ensure the first aid box is regularly checked and replenished to meet current requirements for first aid. f) To keep up-to-date with current Health & Safety training. g) To hold a current first aid certificate for children under 5 years h) To ensure all staff, volunteers and work experience staff are aware of the risk assessment sheets. i) To ensure behaviour management for children and adults ensuring any significant incident is recorded and the parent informed on the day of the incident. 2. To provide high quality care, support and education for the children through:a) Taking overall charge of planning the curriculum following EYFS guidelines and ensuring that children have opportunities to develop in all areas. b) Ensuring that the curriculum plans are carried out c) Deploying the time and skills of adults (both staff and volunteers) in such a way as to offer all children attention, stimulation and support in their learning. 3. To be the St Edmunds Preschool named and trained Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) with responsibility for: a) ensuring liaison with parents and other professionals b) advising and supporting other practitioners in the setting c) ensuring that appropriate Individual Education Plans are in place d) ensuring that relevant background information about individual children with special education needs is collected, recorded and updated e) ensuring appropriate records are kept f) Ensuring that parents are aware of the parent partnership service. 4. To act as supervisor to all permanent staff, work experience staff and volunteers and to convene and Chair staff meetings once a week keeping a written record of the meetings and conducting any liaison required with the committee. 5. To be St Edmunds Preschool Equal Opportunity co-ordinator, ensure compliance with our policy and report any breaches or problems to the Chairperson. Make recommendations to the Chairperson for amendment to the policy as necessary in line with current legislation and good practice. 6. To ensure staff and training is recoded on the staff and committee files, and within the Operational Policy, and is constantly maintained as courses are attended or booked. 7. To ensure all permanent staff are adequately trained and receive current training in order to carry out their jobs efficiently. 8. To liaise and assist Ofsted inspectors when they are carrying out inspections. 9. To keep written records including;a) registration forms for children including up-to-date information on dietary requirements and emergency telephone numbers b) A daily attendance record for children, staff and volunteers. c) Any accidents and incidents of children, staff and volunteers d) The curriculum plans e) Records of observations of the children f) Records required by Ofsted under the Children’s Act and National Standards for Sessional Day Care. g) Any additional records and papers required by Ofsted for inspection purposes. h) Ensure the snack menu is displayed i) Notes on welfare of children, including children protection records and liaise with the Chairperson on any matters concerning children protection. j) To immediately and confidentially report to the Chairperson any matters or concerns relating to child protection. 10. To attend in-service training, in consultation with the Chairperson. 11. To liaise with parents/carers, the St Edmunds Preschool Committee, Education and Social Care Services Ofsted and as necessary and to attend Preschool Committee Meetings and reporting as requested. 12. To plan and run the school holiday play schemes with the Support Assistant. 13. To liaise with St Edmunds Primary School to arrange visits by preschool children and ensure a smooth transition for preschool children to the primary school.
