carol allen storey curriculum vitae Carol Allen Storey is an award-winning photojournalist specialising in chronicling complex humanitarian and social issues. Her imagery illuminating their dignity and quest for survival reflects the unique trust and respect she engenders with her subjects. “My images are intimate, about issues and citizens I deeply care about. I believe photographs may not be capable of doing the moral work for us, but they can trigger the process of social consciousness.” Storey’s work has been exhibited and published extensively. Installations of her photography appear in corporate HQs and commercial premises. In October 2009 she was appointed a UNICEF ambassador for photography. In 2000 Carol graduated Central St. Martins, Master Photography Programme with distinction. Storey’s further degrees include an MA at Columbia University and a BA at Syracuse University. A native New Yorker, Storey resides in London AWARDS 2015 2015 2014 2014 2014 2014 2013 2013 2013 2013 2013 2013 2012 2012 2012 2012 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2011 2010 2010 2010 2009 2009 2009 2008 2008 International Colour Award for photojournalism LENS Culture Award – Finalist for portraiture, and photojournalism One-Eyeland - bronze for feature essays, photojournalism PX3 Award Feature stories: ‘CROSSINGS’:Silver, ‘Fractured Lives’ and Bronze International Spider Awards – nominee Kontinent Awards finalist New York Photography Festival finalist Social Documentary annual award finalist Kontinent Awards – Finalist documentary projects ‘Act of Kindess Award – First Prize International Spider Award - nominee Taylor Wessing National Portrait Gallery Award - exhibition Photo Annual Award – Motion Series Honourable mention PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris – Honourable Mention Altered Images Photocrafti Award finalist The Moving Walls International exhibition The Press Photographer’s Year - finalist Taylor Wessing National Portrait Gallery Award - exhibition Lucie Foundation Scholarship – short listed Social Documentary Competition - finalist One Life International Portfolio Award – short listed International Spider Award - finalist photojournalism and portrait series New York Photography Festival – nominee single editorial International Lucie Photography Awards – honourable mention three editorial essays International Spider Awards – finalist photojournalism and portrait International Spider Award - finalist photojournalism and portrait series Taylor Wessing National Portrait Gallery Award – exhibition New York Photography Festival - finalist The Press Photographer’s Year – finalist International Spider Awards - finalist for photojournalism EXHIBITIONS November 2015 February 2015 December 2014 September 2014 March 2014 February 2014 February 2014 January 2014 November 2013 February 2013 February 2013 October 2012 May 2012 April 2012 December 2011 November 2011 October 2011 September 2011 July/August 2011 December 2010 December 2010 December 2009 November 2009 February 2009 December 2008 July/August 2008 December 2007 June 2006 May 2005 May 2004 Portrait Salon 14 – Group show at the Embassy Tea Gallery, London ‘CROSSINGS’, United Nations HQ, Goma, DR Congo TEENS and THE LONELINESS OF AIDS – solo show ,Pullman Hotel London ‘the AMAHORO generation – Outdoor exhibition, South Bank, London ‘CROSSINGS’ the journey to peace – European Union HQ Brussels ‘CROSSINGS’ the journey to peace – solo show at the Pullman Hotel, London Social Documentary finalist award show – Powerhouse Gallery Arena, New York New York Photography Festival - finalist show Powerhouse Gallery Arena, New York ‘Taylor-Wessing Portrait Award’ – National Portrait Gallery, London The Royal Photographic Society Annual International Members Exhibition ‘Sign of the Times’ – Photographic Collective Outdoor show at Berkley Square ‘FRACTURED LIVES’ - SW1 Gallery, London (solo show) ‘Moving Walls’ – Teplice, Czech Republic ‘Media and Modern Conflict’ – SW1 Gallery, London ‘OUR LIVES’ - The House of St Barnabas, London on behalf of Save the Children ‘Reluctant Sex Worker’ Taylor-Wessing Exhibition – National Portrait Gallery, London Children of Hope – Kendal Gallery, Kendal (solo show) for Kasese Street Kids Foundation ‘25 Year of War and Peace’ – Gallery SW1, London on behalf of International Alert ‘The Press Photographer’s Year 2010’ - National Theatre South Bank, London. ‘RED DOT’ – AOP Association of Photographers Gallery, London for PhotoVoice ‘One World In The Frame’ – Nottinghill Gallery, London ‘RED DOT’ – AOP Association of Photographers Gallery, London ‘Taylor Wessing Portrait Award’ – National Portrait Gallery, London ‘Anything is Possible’ - Association of Photographers Gallery, London.
