pedal and head phones. Introduction to AHDI via Internet

a. Read chapters 1 and 2 in Medical Transcription Fundamentals & Practice, 3rd Edition.
b. Complete corresponding exercises pp. 32-4 and 74-5.
1-19-09 Week Two. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY (NO CLASS)
1. Homework: Read Chapter 4 in Fundamentals, 3rd edition.
2. Complete corresponding exercises pp 130-133.
3. Read Chapter 14 Dirckx text (Review of Systems for Integument).
4. Read Chapter 1 AHDI text (Types, Formats and TATs).
1-26-09 Week Three TOPIC: DERMATOLOGY
1. Lecture: Chapters 3 and 4 Fundamentals; ROS by Dirckx and AHDI Chapter 1.
2. Lab Assignment: Transcribe the following dermatology reports: 2, 3, 5 and 6
utilizing correct formatting technique.
3. Homework assignments:
a. Read Chapters 5 and 6 in Medical Transcription Fundamentals & Practice, Third
Edition.
b. Do proofreading and skills challenge for both chapters.
c. Review chapters 19 and 20 from Dirckx text.
d. Read chapter 4 from the BOS for Medical Transcription (grammar style). This will
take the place of chapter 3 in your fundamentals text as it is more in line with current
practice. You may also refer to the BOS WB Chapter 10 for exercises to practice.
2-2-09 Week Four: TOPIC: ENT/OPHTHALMOLOGY
1. Lecture: Discuss chapters 5 and 6 in Fundamentals text, Dirckx chapters 9 and 20,
AHDI BOS Chapter 4.
2. Lab Assignment: Transcribe the following ENT/Ophthalmologic reports; #1 and 7; #6
3. Homework assignment:
a. Read Chapter 7 in Fundamentals text.
b. Complete proofreading and skills challenge for chapter.
c. Read Chapter 23 in AHDI BOS (Pulmonary/Respiratory)
2-09-09 Week Five: TOPIC: PULMONARY MEDICINE
1. Lecture: Discuss chapter 7 in Fundamentals text; review Chapter 23 in AHDI BOS
(pulmonary function tests).
2. Lab Assignment: Transcribe the following pulmonary reports: #2, 4 and 5.
2. Homework assignment:
a. Read Chapter 8 in Fundamentals text.
b. Complete proofreading and skills challenge.
c. Read Chapter 14 from AHDI BOS on Cardiology.
d. Write a paragraph on supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), please include references.
