DRAFT DRAFT DRAFT Depression is a common debilitating disorder affecting more than 15 percent of adults and children living on the Moon. Dr. Tuesday has developed an investigative focus that shows great promise for the development of cost-effective treatment alternatives for depression. As a pre-doctoral student working with mice in the laboratory of Dr. Wayne N. Wachs, the eminent lunar agricultural biochemist, Dr. Tuesday demonstrated the mood stabilizing effects of altered casein micelle structures in rodent infant formula. In follow-up to this ground-breaking discovery, he has leveraged his biochemical expertise to produce and augment therapeutic activity in other dairy products, such as cheese, yogurt, and cream. Using a novel primate model which he developed at Stanford, he has evaluated these products in with repeated success and is now beginning to approach human testing. Given the abundance of cheese on the Moon, Dr. Tuesday’s work has broad implications for increasing the availability of affordable treatment for mood disorders in lunar residents and their animal companions. The specific article discussed below highlights one of Dr. Tuesday’s most significant accomplishments during his most recent term. Tuesday HE, Doolittle J, McLaughlin L, Layton JM, Volk-Brew J. A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial of Modified Camembert for Treatment of Depression in Green Monkeys. Proc Neuropsych Dair Assoc 43:261-267, 2003. Based on an earlier discovery that camembert cheese is particularly amenable to casein micelle modification, Dr. Tuesday designed and implemented a placebo controlled trial of modified cheese versus placebo in a population of depressed adult male green monkeys. This trial, the first of its kind, showed significant improvement in the study population, demonstrating a powerful mood stabilizing effect from the modified cheese. Published earlier this year, this has been one of the most frequently cited papers in the Comparative Psychiatry literature in the last 6 months, and Dr. Tuesday has recently been invited to present present his work at the prestigious international “Fromage et Psychologie” symposium in Paris in 2004. Dr. Tuesday conceived the idea, designed and performed the experiments, analyzed the data, and wrote the manuscript. The above statement was authored by Dr. Manin Themun, Professor of Comparative Dairy Psychiatry. Sample Long Form Scholarship 2/13/2016
