Adventure Place Family Support Services Service Information Form for Clients Fun Friends Treatment Group The Fun Friends Treatment Group program is an evidence-based intervention designed for children ages 4-7. It focuses on building resiliency through social and emotional skills development. It teaches practical, useful strategies for coping with stress, worry, fear and sadness, including the following: How to relax and self soothe How to regulate emotions How to understand emotions in yourself and other people How to be kind and empathic How to develop effective social and emotional skills How to make friends and share How to be brave and try new things How to build a strong sense of self and self esteem How to deal with conflict How to develop positive coping strategies How to change negative "red thoughts" into positive "green thoughts" Fun Friends groups consist of a maximum of 8 children. Facilitators work with parents to ensure that they are knowledgeable about the concepts being taught in this program, so they can continue to promote their child’s social-emotional competency in the home environment. Location of Service: Groups will take place at Adventure Place site locations 155 McNicoll Avenue, 244 Lesmill Road or in community locations suitable to the needs of the group participants. Frequency of Contact: Weekly Length of Service: The Fun Friends program is offered in 12 week blocks, consisting of a 1 to 1.5 hour group sessions per week. This group can also be offered in 6 week blocks, consisting of 2, 1.5 hour group sessions per week. The group facilitator will review with you the location, frequency and duration. Each week, parents are given a home activity to do with their child. Groups consist of up to 8 children at a time and they will be interacting and learning from each other. This group may not address some children’s needs and further referrals/services may be recommended. Families should not be absent for more than 2 sessions in order to continue with the Fun Friends group. Parents are expected to attend weekly parenting sessions in order to learn relevant concepts, assist child with homework tasks, practice skills and reinforce the material covered in class in the home environment. Parents are required to complete pre and post questionnaires pertaining to their children in order to evaluate progress and program efficacy. Files are maintained for all clients receiving agency services (including group services). Some people may be concerned about confidentiality. The agency has policies and procedures in place regarding protecting client confidentiality and releasing information. These polices will be reviewed with you and may be provided upon request. Community college/university students may be involved in service delivery (under direct supervision of a staff and with parental consent). The above information is provided to clients participating in Fun Friends treatment groups so they are informed of this service.
