Triple P – Positive Parenting Program
Adventure Place’s Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) focuses on the prevention of
behavioural, emotional and developmental concerns in children up to 7 years of age. Triple P
helps to build knowledge, skills and confidence in parents. The system is an evidence based
program developed by Professor Matthew Sanders and associates, at the School of Psychology,
Queensland University, Australia. All groups are run by accredited Triple P practitioners.
Adventure Place currently offers three levels of Triple P.
Level 2: The Triple P Seminar Series is designed to raise community awareness about the
importance of preparation for parenthood, and the value of positive parenting in raising healthy
well-adjusted children. Parents learn how to use positive parenting to promote their children’s
health and wellbeing.
Seminar 1: “The Power of Positive Parenting” provides the building blocks for the program as it
introduces parents to five core principles:





Ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children
Creating a positive learning environment
Using assertive discipline
Having realistic expectations
Taking care of yourself as a parent
Seminar 2: “Raising Confident, Competent Children” and Seminar 3: “Raising Resilient
Children” build on these foundations and show parents how they can apply positive parenting
principles to teaching children social skills and also to cope with their emotions, including stress
and anxiety. Each seminar consists of a 60 minute PowerPoint presentation, followed by a 30
minute question time. It is recommended that parents attend all three sessions.
Level 4: Group Triple P is designed for parents interested in gaining a more in-depth
understanding of Positive Parenting. It is available for parents of young children up to the age of
7 with mild to moderate behavioral difficulties, and covers core parenting skills that can be
adapted to a wide range of parenting situations. Groups of 6-12 parents attend four weekly twohour group sessions (in which DVDs and workbooks are used to engage parents and reinforce
strategies), followed by three weekly scheduled telephone consultations to address individual
progress. A final group session may be scheduled to conclude the service.
