JOB DESCRIPTION:
1.0
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the Director of Pharmacy in managing all aspects of pharmaceutical activities,
services, standards and developments within the pharmacies and the Hospital. A
major role of the Assistant Director is to implement and maintain a high standard of
Clinical Pharmacy services, including education and training.
2.0
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
To design and maintain staffing and rotas and shift patterns, ensuring optimal
use of Human Resources available.
2.2
To help the Director of Pharmacy design, implement and maintain all Policy
and Procedure Guidelines to ensure safe and efficient systems of work.
2.3
Maintain an active in the Local Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and
also in Formulary management.
2.4
To assist the Cerner Systems Manager in the efficient implementation of the
computer systems.
2.5
To assist those responsible for maximizing an efficient stock control and to
help ensure pharmaceutical availability.
2.6
Assist the Director of Pharmacy with Individual Performance Appraisals of
pharmacy staff and in the process of recruitment, terminations and discipline.
2.7
To establish and promote a practical programme, maximizing the resources
available.
2.8
To assist developing a practical and efficient drug information system,
maximizing the resources available.

To establish and promote training programs for Pharmacists and Technicians
and to be involved with those programs within the Hospital that require a
Pharmacy input.
2.10
To develop the Pharmacy services in all aspects with the view to implementing
efficient, modern methods that match local needs.
2.11
To design and implement “Pharmacy Work Instructions”.
2.12
To perform other related activities when required by the Director of Pharmacy
or Clinical Director.
HOURS OF WORK:
The post-holder will work a 48 hour a week. This is usually 7:30am to 5:00pm
Saturdays to Wednesdays (Inc.) and 7:30am to 12:00 noon on Thursdays. They will
carry a bleep for emergency situations, when required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications or Relevant Experience:
4.1.1
Bachelor and postgraduate degree in pharmacy from a recognized
University. (Or be currently undertaking a relevant post-graduate
degree).
4.1.2
Currently Registered with the governing professional body of their
native country.
4.1.3
Have a good command of written and spoken English.
Personal Qualities:
4.2.1
The applicant must be able to demonstrate managerial and team-leader
qualities.
4.2.2
The applicant must be able to demonstrate problem solving abilities.

The applicant must be able to liaise with other hospital staff on a
professional level and have good interpersonal skills.
4.2.4
The applicant will be a calm, caring person, sensitive to the cultural
differences inherent in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and those of
other members of staff.
4.2.5
The applicant will maintain professional standards and attitudes at all
times, in line with department and hospital expectations, policies and
procedures.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in hospital pharmacy practice and at least 1 year in a
managerial position.
5.0
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
5.1
As laid down by the Hospital Programme and subject for amendment.
Remuneration will be commensurate with the category indicated above.
