POST TITLE:
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Reports to the Director and works closely with a project steering
group
GRADE/SALARY:
£28,937 per annum 37 hours per week fixed term until April 30th
2015
Background and
scope for impact
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new project that brings together partners
from the Voluntary and Community Sector across Bristol and South Gloucestershire
along with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. This is one of 14 projects
nationally that receive funding in January 2014.
In November the Office for Civil Society announced a funding stream to promote and
increase the number of 16 year olds taking part in the National Citizens Scheme across
England. Bids had to be at least £300k, have a regional impact, and be sustainable and
replicable. The funding is from January 2014 until March 2015.
Southern Brooks Community Partnership (SBCP), Creative Youth Network (CYN) and
Young Bristol already have a track record of working together and quickly put a bid
together with SBCP as the consortium lead. South Gloucestershire and Stroud College
(SGS) were identified as the main deliverer of NCS in South Gloucestershire with
Young Bristol (YB) as a Bristol NCS provider.
Our project proposal in brief is “Growing and developing youth social action across
Bristol and South Gloucestershire by training 240 15 yr old young people as mentors
to inspire and support 480 younger children/young people to innovate social action
projects in the community. The mentors will be supported to move on into NCS as an
embedded progression route”.
Main purpose of Job
Southern Brooks Community Partnership (SBCP) Creative Youth Network (CYN) and
Young Bristol will employ a team of 6 full time Youth Development Workers who will
train 16 groups of young people aged 15 + as youth mentors who will go on to engage
young people from the age of 10 in social action projects. There will be a Project
Manager and 0.5 admin worker.
 To ensure that 780 children and young people across Bristol and South
Gloucestershire have positive opportunities to experience social action in their
neighbourhoods. You will be responsible for successful delivery of all aspects of
the project, reporting to a Project Steering group. This will include setting up and
monitoring service level agreements with CYN and YB, managing the delivery team
at Southern Brooks and managing the budget. You will be responsible for
demonstrating good practice and identifying future opportunities to grow and
