JOB DESCRIPTION Project Manager – Youth Social Action POST TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: Reports to the Director and works closely with a project steering group GRADE/SALARY: £28,937 per annum 37 hours per week fixed term until April 30th 2015 Background and scope for impact This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new project that brings together partners from the Voluntary and Community Sector across Bristol and South Gloucestershire along with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. This is one of 14 projects nationally that receive funding in January 2014. In November the Office for Civil Society announced a funding stream to promote and increase the number of 16 year olds taking part in the National Citizens Scheme across England. Bids had to be at least £300k, have a regional impact, and be sustainable and replicable. The funding is from January 2014 until March 2015. Southern Brooks Community Partnership (SBCP), Creative Youth Network (CYN) and Young Bristol already have a track record of working together and quickly put a bid together with SBCP as the consortium lead. South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) were identified as the main deliverer of NCS in South Gloucestershire with Young Bristol (YB) as a Bristol NCS provider. Our project proposal in brief is “Growing and developing youth social action across Bristol and South Gloucestershire by training 240 15 yr old young people as mentors to inspire and support 480 younger children/young people to innovate social action projects in the community. The mentors will be supported to move on into NCS as an embedded progression route”. Main purpose of Job Southern Brooks Community Partnership (SBCP) Creative Youth Network (CYN) and Young Bristol will employ a team of 6 full time Youth Development Workers who will train 16 groups of young people aged 15 + as youth mentors who will go on to engage young people from the age of 10 in social action projects. There will be a Project Manager and 0.5 admin worker. To ensure that 780 children and young people across Bristol and South Gloucestershire have positive opportunities to experience social action in their neighbourhoods. You will be responsible for successful delivery of all aspects of the project, reporting to a Project Steering group. This will include setting up and monitoring service level agreements with CYN and YB, managing the delivery team at Southern Brooks and managing the budget. You will be responsible for demonstrating good practice and identifying future opportunities to grow and develop this area of work. Adopted February 16 Ref: YSA/PM/2014 Scope of the Job Duties and Key Responsibities Adopted February 16 The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of this project. This will include developing local and national relationships and partnerships, identifying opportunities and developing relationships with local businesses, organisations and statutory services As one of 14 national projects we expect there will be the opportunity to significantly contribute to the development of future national policy Embed the NCS as a pathway for young people, to improve knowledge about NCS and raise its profile with parents, schools, partners, and young people Participation and involvement of young people will be integral to the role. The post holder will network within the locality and across the region to identify and share best practice as well as supporting awareness of NCS and the value of social action and the role of young people as mentors in raising aspirations and achievement. They will report the outcomes to the stakeholder steering group, commissioners and other interested parties. Collation of robust data to inform future funding applications Working as part of Southern Brooks Leadership Team, you will be implementing our Theory of Change and contributing to the development of future partnerships and consortia Manage successful delivery of all aspects of this project, including monitoring service level agreements and the budget Support a team of 6 Youth Development Workers across Bristol and South Gloucestershire and to manage the 2 Development Workers and admin worker in South Gloucestershire employed by Southern Brooks Organise joint Development Worker meetings Ensure the team deliver accredited youth work training to 240 young people Manage the accreditation process and preferably provide internal verification of youth work training accredited by NOCN Produce reports for a project steering group, Southern Brooks management committee and funders Design and implement a marketing strategy with partners to promote this project and raise the profile of NCS and social action Ensure robust evaluation data is collected With support from an admin worker, ensure all interventions are recorded on a new database and that the journey of young people is tracked Build relationships with key partners across the area of Bristol and South Gloucestershire to raise the profile of the work Source opportunities for new or ongoing funding, including identification of tendering opportunities and supporting with applications for funding Adhere to Southern Brooks service standards, policies and procedures.
