Storing unusable pesticides can
be an unnecessary risk to your
family, your pets and our
environment. Lawn care
products, insect controls and
some household cleaning
products require special care in
use or storage. They also
require special care in disposal.
Do you have old or
unusable pesticides in your
house or garage?
Do you know how to
dispose of them safely?

What you can do to
protect your family and
our water resources:
Clean Sweep Locations in Michigan
 Never dispose of pesticides
by pouring them down a
drain or septic system,
burning them or dumping
them on the ground.
Marquette County Solid Waste
(906) 249-4125 ext. 26
 You can take unwanted
pesticides and mercury to
one of Michigan’s Clean
Sweep sites for proper
disposal. (See map for the
nearest location.) Call for an
appointment. This is a free
service provided by the
Michigan Groundwater
Stewardship Program, the
Environmental Protection
Agency and other local
agencies.
 You may have a local
program to dispose of other
household hazardous waste.
Call your local health
department or MSU Extension
office for more information.
 Be careful when handling old
pesticide containers and use
protective clothing such as
chemically resistant gloves.
